This type of question makes no sense, because you dont chose a compressor "for a song", its dependent on the source material (instrument, bus,...) that you wanna compress. I would recommend you looking through some tutorials on different types of compression (opto, fet, vca,...) and trying them out in your project. Any kind of recommendation here (aka "use xy compressor) is pointless really.

Totally opposite, actually every creative artist would prefer specific type or model because of the compressor characteristics matching the song idea and temper - your statement has no logic at all, i would like to hear recommendations of advanced guys here for pop track like sample i apply,i guess there is countless pop records mixed with just few compressor models last 3-4 decades, just i have no idea which models are been used and why.
I am in need of smooth sound and expressive character to be shaped within fx chain and it seems compressors are very important part of it.
Please don't waste my time with pointless debate.
Thanks.

I'm certainly advanced...in age.

As others have implied, a lot of it isn't what you've got, it's what you do with it. For about 95% of what I do I use the same 2 compressors.

A good 'general purpose' clean sounding compressor is a place to start. I like Klanghelm DC83 for this and use the (tweaked) presets (KVR heresy!!!!! :o ) on vocals, drums, bass, master (x2) routinely. I'm sure others can recommend things equally versatile.

For 'character' compression with saturation and bite I like the compressor in Toneboosters Ferox plug-in - gets a lot of use on both acoustic and electric guitars and sometimes additionally on drums, bass vocals for extra ooomph (technical term). Again, there are loads of more 'colourful' ones about, so try some out.

It really is about finding what suits your material, and learning inside out how particular effects interact with it, through experience..

just put xfer ott on the master and you are done

i've got 7-8 really good, each shine in some corner, but definitely mastering processors with clean sound doesn't work well on mix bus or individual track.
The more diverse of color, the better.
The two i mentioned above are absolutely adorable on almost everything, just wanna know how in 90s pop was mixed, have to check www.
I was mistaken to thing that saturators and eq could do the job and compressor isn't so important, but i was wrong...it is very important and if find right tool, tracks shine.
Thanks for your time.

I wonder how many KVR users buy presets from you because of your ridiculous posts... But as you keep making them and keep spouting nonsense, it either works or (my suspicion) you have a rather inflated perspective of yourself.

Well, he wanted advice from "advanced guys" here but didnt take an advice from an "advanced guy" because it didnt fit his (rather disillusional) imagination.
Taking the time to trying out different types of compression takes less time than creating a thread and posting weird stuff here on kvr, but that says a lot about intelligence already. And btw, the internet is flooded with informations about this topic, you just have to look it up...

i wish to have tools to delete immediately such an ''advanced'' guys, but anyway,if these ''advanced'' guys are so productive with their production as they are to this topic, thanks, but no thanks :)If you were able to discuss any type, model or whatever from your experience you would gladly share some advice and info, but obviously you are just fkn idiots wasting my time.
Advanced guys hehehe :)
End of wasted time :)
