Very slim update, but as a subscriber I'm happy about the new features we got. I love the new split edit in the sequencer!
But as much as I love the new timeline zoom I can't understand why it is so hard to fix vertical zooming and trackpad zooming. Why nobody at RS raise their hand and say «this needs to be fixed». I'm sure there's a Macbook among the test devices.
The new browser is growing on me. I like how I can choose what to browse for by using different shortcuts.
Having it as a child window restricted by the parent window is weird though. I doubt that's by design, but because of a technical reason. Something that should have been solved. I'm sure this will be pointed out by most reviewers. That's not good.

199$? Nah, certainly not...

I'm interested in Reason exclusively as a DAW and have been dying for some respective updates for years and even for me there just isn't enough interesting new stuff to warrant paying anything close to that sum.

Right now since Reason 11 it's possible to use Reason plugins inside other DAWs with the Reason Rack Plugin or just use the whole Reason as the main DAW.
What they should do as a major feature is to make the whole Reason DAW able to run inside another DAW. Having multiple full Reason DAW instances on each track in another DAW would allow for some all new combo if in such a mode each Reason DAW would allow for full automation.. one could have automation inside each Reason DAW instance on each track along with automation on the main DAW driving parameters of each Reason DAW that way .. then with scripting it could allow for some really complex things to happen too.
FL Studio VST plugin has such a feature .. I don't have that one so I wonder about the limits if any.
If they implemented such a feature then maybe the $199 upgrade price would have been justified too.

The update also includes extensive upgrades to the browser, sequencer and MIDI editor, as you surely know -- but who cares about reality when the goal is just to complain, I guess? :tu:

You know cheaper DAWs like Reaper (which I got too) give those types of upgrades for free for many months/years thru continuous updates , right ? Buying Reaper right now which is at version 7.16 means free upgrades until version 8.99 ... For a $199 upgrade price they should include some major new features and more than just a couple new plugins...

You are spot on. KVR forums are littered with wingers and complainers in all areas and usually from the same members.
Sign of times I guess… :-(

Actually, I think these prices are to push you to subscribe, nothing more.

The reality is there are a lot of people who are just Rack users...its a tad expensive if that is how you predominantly use Reason, its a pity they don't have a cheaper RRP only upgrade...
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

The reality is that what Reason are offering after many years without a new updated version is what most other Daws offer for unpaid updates. Frankly, it is just sad to see the company in this position - if you think I am not in reality let's just see how this works out. Anyway, I am out of here.

If they didn't specifically tell that they now embrace OS dark mode, I wouldn't be as moderately pissed as I am right now.

I wouldn't pay a single cent for that...

what I need is basic things such as the ability to save a new/alternative project-version that doesn't duplicate every single audio-file the original project uses but instead references these (already existing) files...

...or being able to record multiple MIDI-takes...

---ort being able to slip-edit audio-takes.

Things like that which assist normal productivity instead of catering for folks who wish to play with several toys at once.

I'm not really up-to-date with Akai, but would you expect an MPC to act like, for example Logic regarding audio editing?
To me Reason is a simplified -music making tool-
That's all there is to it

What I mean is that I don't expect any advanced stuff being added if not specifically mentioned.

$199!? Ha ha, yea no...

I love Reason. I use it daily. This is not a $199 update. They didn't add any new features, they simply rearranged existing ones. The new delay thing looks cool but I need another VA synth like I need a hole in the head. We'll see what point updates bring or maybe I will sit 13 out.

Reason is a DAW - has been for more than a decade - hasn't been a plugin until recently.
