To be clear, I am happy for DAW users as they have been VERY patient. But for RRP users, the value isn't there....

because I definitely would like to see them continue to develop the DAW. Reason 13, however, is too little for far too much $$$$.
Either charge less or develop more.
Yes, exactly this. I am also afraid of them drawing the wrong conclusions...

For DAW users it neither is, unfortunately...Jac459 wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 8:17 am To be clear, I am happy for DAW users as they have been VERY patient. But for RRP users, the value isn't there....

I mean - if they would come out and say something along the lines of:
"DAW users we hear you. V13 will be mainly about the DAW side of Reason and this is the planned roadmap for free 13.x updates: [list of highly requested features/improvements before the plugin came along] If you want to vote with your wallet for us to keep Reason as a DAW alive and strong, now is the time", then I'd part with 200 bucks in a heartbeat. But as it is it's just too little too late for far too much money.

Cannot say much about the new synth (I definitely don't need another one), but the "tools" can easily replaced with existing RE's. Selig Gain (sometimes on sale for 50% --> $10), Groovy Melon Morfin XF Crossfader (free), and Pump Sidechain (free) are the way to go.Jac459 wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 8:16 am Same here. In particular as I am using it only as RRP. It is impossible to justify such a price for a simple synth and FX.
Having a RE equivalent to Polyverse Wider as Stereo Widener is tempting, but for $199??? Nah!

This sidechain stuff was very very much needed though... But indeed, more a core feature than an attractive new device.Crossinger wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 8:48 amCannot say much about the new synth (I definitely don't need another one), but the "tools" can easily replaced with existing RE's. I remember when I was using the DAW, you could sort of kind of have an envelop follower and achieve a "kind of" sidechaining. But frankly, not having a proper side chaining with envelop follower with selectable frequency range and attack/release control was kind of lame...

Yeah, or any VST-comp with sidechain will do...

There is no doubt that 13 is better than 12 so if your paying subscription all is good...its just the upgrade cost for non subscribers that seems to have turned people off this update.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Yeah Reason is a great value for subscribers I guess.SLiC wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 2:03 pm There is no doubt that 13 is better than 12 so if your paying subscription all is good...its just the upgrade cost for non subscribers that seems to have turned people off this update.
With all the additional sound you get and quite an active support and social posting, it is quite engaging.
But for non-subscribers (or worst, RRP non-subscribers) the economical equation is hard to solve, even if I do like this company.

I suspect everything is built, priced and driven to get more people to subscribe. Even the 20% launch discounts just on subscription it seems. I suspect after some time (when the new subscribers driven by access to 13 have dropped off) they will discount the perpetual licences...I am sure someone has a big forecasting spreadsheet somewhere in Reason , driven by accountants now it seems!

I specifically like this kind of device though. Prior to this I was using PumpRE, because it also had a send mode (where it's actually boosting a phase inverted version of whatever you send into it, allowing you to duck multiple channels by varying amounts). Then I built my own. Then Reason came out with Sidechain Tool. Generally prefer triggered envelopes to straight up audio compression for some things because it's just more predictable and controllable.

If they are not totally out of touch they might draw the (correct) conclusion that it was perhaps a bit too expensive .jens wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 8:32 amJamminFool wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 7:55 am I hope they don't reach the wrong conclusion when this does not sell well.
