No offense Jon but you are really sounding like a broken record with the "we are working on new things" schtickJon at Roland wrote: Tue Jun 18, 2024 8:33 pmHey jamcat! Roland Cloud does not require a membership and in fact a lot of users prefer to purchase the plug-ins out right instead of the membership model and we don't mind that at all! We are a small team and took some time last year to update some old instruments and working on some new projects. we are currently working on some new releases for everyonejamcat wrote: Sat Jun 15, 2024 8:14 pm That's subscription economics at work.
Why spend the money to develop new products when you're getting paid whether you do or not.
Universal Audio has recently figured that out too..
You have been saying that here and other places on the net for a very very long time and unlike other companies never give any hints, public betas, or road maps of what you are working on
Yet you expect people to sign up for subscriptions and as a representative of the company are continuing to promise new things that two years later have not come and refuse to give any indication of when they are

At this point I will not buy anything (lifetime keys), even if they will release something new. I bet the competition has already released it already and you do not need the whole cloud framework to work with those and do not need to phone home and open a myriad of connections to oblivion.
I guess it is really coming to a halt for the cloud really now, the galaxias is just some placeholder to keep ppl subbed in the Ultimate tier, but it is worthless imo.
Promises for new content (=new legendaries really) are weak and long overdue and RolandCorp think they can get away with releasing another soundpack. At least they think so, but I only see negative/positive comments on the whole situation in a 95-5% ratio.
It is also eating away at Rolands reputation, I presume, for their HW line I think as well. If ppl have to jump thru 10 gates to obtain a SW version of their HW acquisition, it only leaves a bitter taste instead of enjoyment.

Why aren't you moving the authorization system to iLok? You're losing so many potential customers. You would make more money. Would purchase in a hurry but reading all the nightmare stories related to the authorization is not very appealing. At least give a chance to those owning iLok USB sticks.

A question: The permanent license also requires RCM app and regular online checking?

Hey phreaque, Roland Cloud requires a once a month check in with Roland Cloud Manager. Meaning just a connection to the internet once every 30 days. There is always a possibility we might move to a different system in the future, and we aren't opposed to this, but this is the system we have now and are always open for suggestions. It's got its flaws and we are always working on improving Roland Cloud Manager, but doing it this way means that all future updates and improvements included in the price. If you are worried about losing your purchases in the future, the only times we would ever discontinue support for an instrument is if the software is so outdated that we can't keep up and deliver a solid product. This happened with Concerto and we made good on this by giving users a chance to download it without RCM or any coninued support.phreaque wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 1:51 pminstant turn offnickamandote wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 1:47 pmYesphreaque wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 1:47 pm A question: The permanent license also requires RCM app and regular online checking?![]()

So you're saying RC could make the lifetime license on those products work like Concerto, but you won't just to keep everyone dependant on logging in every thirty days?
This is exactly what the majority of people keep challenging RC as why it's stupid to buy into it. And the history of simply killing a lifetime license is overwhelming. (Dimension, Rapture, Z3ta, Sonar, HW drivers, Concerto, etc.)

I imagine this Jon from Roland guy have to take a good 4 steady drinks before going on kvr to parrot the script. Poor guy. Please know Jon, we don't blame you. You're just the poor sot who have to do this. I hope you're paid well.
But honestly. You have to see it yourself. It's almost tragic at this point. Especially since all of your stuff can be ((**)) and you still can't even say what you're working on? At this point, who do you think you are? (Roland Corp, not you personally). Your stuff is already out there, other manufacturers are doing stuff you also do, you're not in the 90s no more.
Get up to date and do it quickly.

I don't really have a problem with the Cloud as it is, and I really don't want iLok. Just about to enter my 3rd year of Ultimate Play for Life membership. Not sure what I will do once I own all the synths that I really want from the Cloud pool.
Question for Jon, does the 30 day counter reset each time I log into the cloud? i.e., can I log in right before going on a trip to be sure it does not pop up while I am traveling?

All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

Just stop man, this has been begged and pleaded for since the very beginning and that feature request has been 100% ignored, so it's obvious there is no openness about it for Roland. Roland wants the RCM phone home feature and somehow is unable to ACTUALLY make it workJon at Roland wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 4:46 pm Hey phreaque, Roland Cloud requires a once a month check in with Roland Cloud Manager. It's insulting to everyone to pretend otherwise.
And you claim to be in tech support and not marketing, so explain how other plugin developers are able to update software without the phone home requirements every 30 days?

Why not phoning home once on install and that's all? Everyone would agree on that.IvyBirds wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 6:51 pmJust stop man, this has been begged and pleaded for since the very beginning and that feature request has been 100% ignored, so it's obvious there is no openness about it for Roland. Okay. Maybe I deserve this. I just loaded the 909 into an Ableton Live project and got messages that I would get intermittent noise because my plugin was not verified. I had to load cloud since I have stopped it from auto loading every time I turn the computer on, log in, verify, delete the 909 track and enter it again. Hey Rabid, so sorry to hear this. Is this an issue after updating to v3.1.6?Rabid wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 8:17 pmOkay. Maybe I deserve this. To answer the previous question, in theory you should be able to connect once, disconnect from the internet entirely for a month and still use the plug-ins until you need to phone home again. There has been lots of talk about the idea of a gig button, or some kind of auth pause feature, as well as a timer for when users need to connect to the internet.
Hey nickamandote, I see what you are saying with this. And like I said, we often discuss other ways to operate Roland Cloud Manager so it's possible we could decide to shift the model going forward. That being said, it's not for everyone, and we totally get that. But a cloud service requires a regular connection and that's currently what we are running.nickamandote wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 7:27 pm
