I have a crazy amount of samples built up over a long time. It seems to have gotten worse over the last few years.

I know that ADSR has a sample manager, but I am wondering if there are others out there that are worth considering.

I found this part of the problem needed addressing. So I stopped buying samples. Didn't keep me from downloading free ones, or taking a free loopcloud trial. They accumulate like dust bunnies. Some people :phones: have that hoarding propensity.

My advice is, before a sample manager, come up with a workflow for ingesting new ones, an organizational structure on the drive, and naming convention. I just got a new RAID enclosure so I can have better redundancy on my samples. I keep the original packages stashed away on a separate RAID, but after you put enough time into organizing them, the last thing you want is lose all that effort in a drive failure. Without those 4 pillars, any sample manager is still just pissing into the wind. With all those in place, a sample manager can be a force multiplier.

Oh wow I missed that. UCS is even better than whatever I can come up with. :tu:

The librarian in my mind is rather satisfied, but wonders if it's Dublin Core compliant. :hihi:
The musician in my mind is like WTF :o ... with all the many hours it would take to (re)name everything, when do we make music?

Young Guru once said at Ableton Loop, "File management is a superpower."

To work efficiently for his A-list clients, he needs to immediately remember:
1) What he has
2) Where it is

For me, "naming" is populating my musical imagination.
It is time well spent!
