I saw Sylvester before he passed away. Only Prince and Jon Batiste can do a falsetto like that. Unfortunately I was also on LSD and only remember one song.

none really
the bands that i liked were in their prime in the late 1960s
and early 1970s

i did get to see david bowie during his "lets dance" phase
two or more decades from his "ziggy stardust" phase?

to be 15 years old n 1970 would have been the perfect time
but no, i would need a time machine

the good thing is classic rock fm radio
it's like a time machine
fm radio had/has music from the late 1960s and early 1970s
and at 15 years old, led zeppelin had the biggest effect

Some other cool stuff (I reckon) I've seen:

Autechre
Aphex Twin
Kid 606
DJ Rupture / Nettle
June of 44 / Bob Tilton / Polaris
Converge (a few times)
Wolf Eyes
Hair Police
Corsano / Flowers Duo (in a crypt)
Flaming Lips (loads of times)
Tony Conrad (started hallucinating during that...)
The slightly comedy pairing of Melt-Banana and Khanate
Venetian Snares

I was there too - but also went back the following week it was so good
I seem to remember that the music press panned the first Knebworth show. Maybe the band were a little rusty, but I enjoyed it.
aMUSEd wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 8:46 am Lots of bands at Knebworth as I was brought up in that area: Genesis, Pink Floyd, Fairport Convention, Devo, Dr Feelgood, Specials, went every year in the mid 70's
I saw Genesis at Knebworth in '78 and Milton Keynes in '82. In '78 the rain poured down the day before the concert and we got soaked (we didn't have a tent). At MK in '82, it poured with rain throughout the concert. The Knebworth show was terrific, the MK show was nowhere near as good, and not solely due to the weather.
aMUSEd wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 8:46 am Shook hands with Peter Gabriel at one of his first solo concerts post Genesis, somewhere in London (can't quite recall the venue)
That would be the Hammersmith Odeon, or the New Vic. Theatre, unless you were at Hatfield Polytechnic.
aMUSEd wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 8:46 am Saw lots of great early punk and new wave bands in a tiny little pub venue in Oxford called The Oranges and Lemons when I was working in Oxford, including a very memorable and acrobatic performance by John Otway and Wild Willy Barret
I saw Johnny Moped at the Music Machine in Camden in May '78. Allan Holdsworth turned up and played guitar. Captain Sensible was in the audience. We got the train home with him. I last met the Captain at a 21st Century Schizoid Band gig in Croydon in 2002.
aMUSEd wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 8:46 am Saw Joni Mitchell at Wembley - that was such a great concert but I was too far back to see much of the stage
I wish I had been there. I seem to remember having a prior engagement. There was a partial broadcast on the BBC soon after the concert, and it's on YouTube now.

So that's who Wonder if I Take You Home and One Way or Another was about.

I was there also ... drove all the way down from Newcastle on my BSA lowrider. I remember Jimmy Page getting pretty "out there" at times. ;) Saw them play at Earl's Court too.

Was he still in love? Biggest cliffhanger since Meat Loaf, topped only by How Bizarre.

This thread made me remember all the great concerts. I saw Madonna in the 1980's on her Blonde Ambition tour. That was a Cirque du Soleil of a concert. But she was at the top of her game. So much fun.
I saw Alanis Morissette. but I really only wanted to see the opening act which was Garbage. HUGE Garbage fan, but they went and played Saturday Night Live that night so instead she brought out some lameo with a guitar. Don't even remember the name. The worst part is my friends knew Garbage wouldn't be there and purposely didn't tell me because they thought I'd refuse to go. Alanis killed it though. Really enjoyed her.

That's quite ironic

how about "great classic concerts you have NOT attended"?

okay, bands can be great one day and sucky the next but...
i would have attended pavement's concert when they were here
even if they sucked that night

but i didn t even know they were here
and my boss probably wouldn't have believed my excuse of
"boss, i'm sick, i can't come to work tonight"
