That's why My Bloody Valentine are my benchmark for an all-out poptastic extravaganza

Post

i think the gigs that fit the title, actual classic gigs, individual gigs in time...
same act, 20 years apart, stone roses, spike island and heaton park.

although i have been to many gigs, these are the only two that are considered parts of history.
:ud:

I only saw the Stone Roses when touring Second Coming (no Reni iirc), and it was okay.

I would imagine Spike Island was a little different!

tbh, i wasn't really a fan back then, was more in to thrash and death metal.
but it was five mins from home, was a lovely day, we we figured we'd go and hang out nearby.
then found out security had pretty much given up, as loads of people we just swimming across the canal.
so we ended up getting in for nowt and managed to find some pills, so i became a fan through mdma

i wish i have attended at least one concert from all the poll's examples

is the topic starter a fellow lover of classic rock or what?
wowie zowie

but the good thing is that there are film concerts from those bands
filmed during their prime

plus, pink floyd's "live at pompei" wasn't even in front of crowds
film is better than being there, live in concert?
except maybe the punk music concerts...
where you could be close enough to spit at sid vicious

On a screen you have a better view (and better sound without needing earplugs) but still I wish you were here because the experience differs: you were not there.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image

oh you mean the infectious enthusiasm from the crowd?
can't do the "wave"

but i can't get killed too
fred durst and his kind always there in concerts
inciting riots, not caring about people getting trampled underfoot

these are the pros and cons of hitchiking, err concert-going

i'd rather risk dying via borderline anorexia

not better or worse, but very different.
there is something to be said, for being involved, in a moment in time.
in a live situation, many things can "go wrong" which add to the "moment in time", im not talking catastrophic things, just things that make one night different from last night.

eg watching a member of a band, knock themselves out cold, 2 songs in to the set, by jumping up and twatting his head on the roof.
no one else on that creaming jesus tour, saw one of the other band members sing a few songs, meaning we had something special!

I saw the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense Film and I saw it live.

The film was good but live was amazing......

Sadly, I've not seen any of those great musicians play live - alhough I did see Robert Plant individually do a nice set at WOMAD (which also featured Richie Havens that year).

Happily, I have seen some very decent acts live such as Al Green, REM, Paul Weller and Elbow - plus a few others from my 'misspent caner' years in the late 1990s such as Leftfield, Air and Faithless.
(By accident, I was the first one crowd-surfing at a Therapy? gig when I was 15 years old, which was both exhilerating and somewhat concerning when ALL the bouncers converged on just me... though I didn't get any punches in the bollocks amazingly for the Nottingham Rock City crowd that night).

No King Crimson, Yes, or Jeff Beck on the list? One of the best shows I saw was KC in 1995 at the Paramount in Seattle. I was very glad I was able to see JB in 1976 and saw Yes 7 times!

I also saw Adrian Belew on his solo tour in 2019 from 2nd row/center. :)

Others I saw that are on the list were Led Zeppelin, Rush (7 different tours), AC/DC (w/Bon Scott), Zappa (two different tours), and Aerosmith (Rocks tour).

I saw Pearl Jam during their Ten tour at a club so nyah.
On my way to the club entrance from the parking lot I was approached by a few people wanting to buy our tickets which we bought for 20 bucks each general admission. One guy offered to buy the tix for 400 dollars (200 each ticket).
Vedder threw up backstage at the show. He got too intense after eating a meal haha. What a dumb f**k.
I mean.....you can't get that shit at a Yes show.

I also saw the Rolling Stones with all original members in their final tour (Steel Wheels). Guns N Roses opened, also with all original (Appetite) members.
So f**k all you prog rock pink floyd pig wall boring ass alan parson produced dip shits.
Speaking of, I had a friend whose dad saw Floyd at the LA sports arena for The Wall. He touched one of the bricks and aftwerwards used a bone as a weapon.

I saw Crimson Discipline tour. :tu:
Saw Yes with Wakeman and the Roger Dean stage setup. :tu:
Saw Belew a few times, once with Crimson, once with Laurie Anderson, and I think the other time was with the Tom Tom Club....The guy is amazing.

Never saw JB but was a big fan.
Saw Aerosmith (Rocks tour), wasn't great.
Saw Zappa, was great.... :tu: (oddly Jimmy Buffet opened)
Saw the Stones front center (Some Girls Tour), would have been great but that area was standing room only and the crowd was a wave of crazed people constantly being moved back and forth.
Still, that was a big comeback time for them and the first tour with Ronnie Wood.
