hi guys, i got some songs done i wanted to compile and in the past i went always by ear but now i tried to stay around -8 LUFS int and have adjusted the tracks around it and checked the LUFS with EXPOSE 2. but i got a song which is -8.9 LUFS and it sounds a tad louder than the song with -7.5 LUFS.

what can this be? trust my ears or go by EXPOSE 2 LUFS meter?

how do you do it?

Picture yourself as the listener. Are you then going to run it through an analyser and watch the numbers, or are you going to sit back and enjoy.

Also, not all tracks on an album nescessarily need to be exactly as loud as the other. They are all different. Embrace that.

Trust your ears. LUFS is just an approximation (and not even a good one).

appreciate it guys, i just use these mostly double check. but yeah you are right, i mean i can imagine if i got tracks like one is -7 LUFS and the other one -11 LUFS it might be a hint that the volume might be a bit too different.

and yeah i checked some albums and they also got not always the same volume. not drastically of course but also not perfect.

For music you have to check and compare the Short Term at the loudest parts of the tracks, not the integrated value. Integrated can vary drastically between tracks, because it's a measurement through the whole track, and every track has different amount of loud and quiet parts that influences the integrated value.

Depends how much low end is in the tracks too and the balance of sounds used. A more midrange focused track could be perceived as louder at a lower lufs reading.

Loudness between songs - (-9 LUFS song sounds louder than -7.5 LUFS song) by ear or with help?
