Let me jump in before Jamcat does and say: well then, get on the Boss BF-2! ;)

Wonder if we'll ever get a DHM 89 emulation. PitchLoop89 seems to be the only attempt so far but its limited to M4L and Live 11+.

What hardware is this based on? I'm not familiar with this.

...the Publison Infernal Machine.

their Tinderbox album uses lots of it

Thanks! I'd never heard of this box. I thought the Infernal Machine name was one of those tongue in cheek plugin emulation names, not the name of the original hardware. Interesting.

And some more stuff. Hope they modeled everything and not just the reverbs.

Should have worked on that one rather than that McRocklin stuff...

No, it's just the reverbs. The big "FRENCH REVERBERATOR" on the front of the GUI in the teaser video should give that clue, along with Savant only doing reverb plugins.

The big draw with the Publison back in the day was that it was one of the very few boxes that could do MIDI-controlled *stereo* sampling with decent quality and sampling times - neither the Synclavier or the Fairlight could do high-quality stereo sampling at that point - but of course, sampling is no big deal now.

And with Autotune and Flexpitch and Melodyne etc, I'm not sure how useful implementing the pitch shifting would be, or the other FX stuff, much as a complete emulation for those interested in the original unit is nice to have and play with, of course.

I'm interested though in the reverb algorithms and quality, as I've not really ever heard much detail on that over the years - the Publison was quite a boutique and rare unit. SAW used theirs to spin in whole vocal and bvox sections to avoid having to record them multiple times...

Comparing the Publison to Autotune and Melodyne makes no sense. It's like a H910, who's pitch shifting is also incredibly crappy for standard pitch shifting duties but glorious for effects with the delay line and feedback. The clips I've heard of the Publison pitch shifting in action are some of the most insane psychedelic effects I have ever heard, it's like an H910 on crack.

Nope. Lexicon Vortex.
An idiot on Set Theory:

Is the crappy one not the DHM 89 from 1978? So this one: https://www.preservationsound.com/2013/ ... er-c-1978/
