I don't think that Reason will ever cease to exist. I don't see any signs for that and even if Reason Studios would go bankrupt, the software would just be sold to another company and live on. And lets not forget that the DAW is not their only source of income. They still generate a lot of income with RE's. They could also convert their RE's into VSTs if things were looking bad for them. Object as an example would sell a lot.
And what makes people think that Reason 13 is a disaster? Because of a poll in a forum with a few hundred voters (who are not even verified Reason users) who probably not even represent 1% of the whole userbase? Right now I'm (not really) a bit more concerned about Bitwig, as they have so many sale events lately.
I think Reason should try to be a bit more innovative. Why don't they make the Rack 3D for VR/AR goggles? VR/AR is still very niche it seems but if they make it good, people would buy AR googles just to use them with Reason. Just like people buy new computers to be able to play some new computer game. A Reason Rack in RL size where the knobs can be controlled with your fingers? I think that would be awesome. And as far as I know, most RE's are already modelled in 3D.

How about experience? We don't 'think' R13 is a disaster, we experienced it first hand, and to many (including myself) it IS a disaster. Especially when Reason is your main DAW, and you've implemented a workflow around it for years (including myself).

For me it is a disaster, too. Reason user since the early days but we have still no markers and other things in a so called "workflow" update...unbelievable. I think they should change their management as soon as possible.

Sad to see that even you think it is a disaster as if I remember well you are a long time user and supporter of Reason DAW...crimsonwarlock wrote: Sat Jul 13, 2024 3:05 pmHow about experience? For me it isn't a disaster as I am an RRP user. This is just a release which has no interest for me and wasn't targeting RRP users.

I think it's a missed opportunity. I'm sure that a virtual studio inside of AR will come sooner or later. Reason has the chance to be a pioneer in that field as it's Rack is predestined to be used in a AR environment. Hundreds of Rack Extensions are modelled in 3D, so a lot of the work is already done. The technology to support that idea is also there, so why not? In my opinion that's better than creating a bunch of obsolete Rack Extensions and call that an update.

Dang dude - you're one of the select few who make it onto my mute list - your silly off topic nonsense isn't even entertaining...

It sort of depends what you mean by disaster…13 is probably better than 12 (once the iron the bugs out) subscribers just get it free anyway so probably OK with it…RRP users will just skip it, who knows if others will upgrade…if they were expecting a lot of praise and attention I suspect it will have been a bit of a disappointment…but I’m sure there will be a lot of people internally spinning it as a great success either way. For me, it’s just no big deal either way.

The disaster is that it isn't really targeting the DAW users either - what's even worse is that it breaks existing (decade old) workflows and they even actually removed features/functionality.Jac459 wrote: Sat Jul 13, 2024 3:49 pm For me it isn't a disaster as I am an RRP user. They basically tried reinventing the wheel (a beautyfully working one at that) - and failed.

the floating browser move was really unexpected and mind me to say a shitty one. Don't appreciate it at all. You can't even move the floating window outside to a second monitor...
Who designed that shit?
On their own merch Videos you can hear them praising shit up to the sky, but I bet no one even uses it. Because if they did, then they would notice small shit like this

I personally think the browser should be dockable, but if it must be floating, then I can understand why constraining it to the window might make sense from a UX perspective.
If you're in browse mode (orange color), you need to eventually either confirm or cancel your choice. If you cancel, the loaded patch along with all further tweaks are reverted.
If the user could minimize the browser or drag it off to some other monitor while in the middle of patch browsing, then they're more likely to forget about it and proceed to work on other things. This raises the possibility they'll mindlessly revert the patch much later, potentially losing work.

Of course it's a disaster, everything they've done has been a disaster since the previous management's disastrous decision to insist they would never support VSTs forced them to sell Propellerheads to hedge fund ghouls who renamed it 'Reason Studios' and hired a suit with zero previous connection to the industry or music in general who's only prior management was running a very well capitalized telecom startup into the ground in six months.
Since the current management took over they simply don't miss a chance to give a big ole middle finger to their existing user base while simultaneously becoming an industry laughing stock in a variety of way. Clueless arrogance and customer-hostility is literally their brand at this point. Expect them to continue to double down on not delivering any of the basic features their userbase has been demanding for 15 years while trying ever more aggressive and sleazy ways of forcing their perpetual license customers to adopt an absurd $20/mo subscription model.
The answer is to stop giving these people money and let them fail as an example and a warning to the rest of the industry until and unless both the current management and ownership have been replaced by people who care about their employees and customers and the product, none of which the current management cares about whatsoever. It would be sad if all the talented people responsible for the original product hadn't been driven out by toxic mismanagement a long time ago...

Six months for a startup isn’t a bad first try. This is the type of person who could one day run a multibillion dollar company into the ground and walk away with 300 million dollars. You have to nurture that type of talent and that requires intermediate stops along the way. We should feel privileged that Reason is one of those stops.two_tone wrote: Sat Jul 13, 2024 6:59 pm Of course it's a disaster, everything they've done has been a disaster since the previous management's disastrous decision to insist they would never support VSTs forced them to sell Propellerheads to hedge fund ghouls who renamed it 'Reason Studios' and hired a suit with zero previous connection to the industry or music in general who's only prior management was running a very well capitalized telecom startup into the ground in six months.

I'm indeed, and still, a supporter of the Reason DAW, as long as we talk about pre-R13 versions. It is indeed sad to see where this is going. They (Reason Studios) were always very vocal about taking the time to do things the right way, but this R13 release is obviously not about doing things 'the right way'. They took away functionality that is used by a large part of the Reason user-base (as evidenced by this being central to almost all recent Reason-discussions on many music-forums), how is that possible if you 'take the time to do things right'. And giving us a tagging system where you can't define your own tags (yes, I would like to have a FUNCTIONAL tagging system), so it is basically in the conceptual stage and not actually ready to be used in a (music)production environment.Jac459 wrote: Sat Jul 13, 2024 3:49 pmSad to see that even you think it is a disaster as if I remember well you are a long time user and supporter of Reason DAW...crimsonwarlock wrote: Sat Jul 13, 2024 3:05 pm How about experience? The bottom-line, for me, is that I would happily drop 200 euros for R13, even with the rather minimal additions, if they had done it 'right'. Meaning, no show-stopping bugs (in that regard the current version is still beta-status), original workflow features still intact, and new stuff added in a way that honors existing workflows (and existing users).
I don't think their next quarterly will smell like roses.
