Hate the dinky knobs.

Post

I like it, I want it, although "released" I see Anderton's only UK supplier and it's a 3 month wait, so I guess I'll wait, it will be fun to modularise it with my Neutron

Post

For £320 that's a really good synth.

Seems like a modern ms 20 with additional sub oscs, and more waveforms for the oscs.

Sounds really good. And it's not a ripoff copy. Nice.

Post

If only it were polyphonic, and of course was able to save presets, and perhaps, a larger interface, I think I may have been all in.

I'm not much of a modular/semi-modular user, but I've gone back and forth on wanting a Neutron countless times over the years. Proton looks even better, but maybe I'll snag a cheap Neutron after everybody upgrades to the Proton.

Technically it's a ripoff of their Neutron if you were cynical :hihi:

Yeah, the knobs look smaller than I remember they were going to be if I had remembered it properly. But it does a jolly good and aggressive boing. Those Mo'fatMrBlobby filters sound great - Behringer can make their own stuff really well when they put their minds to it. It really is what I always wanted Neutron to be, only more blue (which is a good thing - I will now have 2 blue synths). I hate to say it but the GUI kinda reminds me of Synth1. I will be buying one as forthwithly as I can manage, probably meaning end of 2024 I'd imagine  . I'm gonna need a fkn huge rack to put all these Behringer toys in.

Both the Neutron and Proton are gateway drugs to a bottomless abyss of blissful potentiality, which is never "completely" realized. Perhaps more in keeping with your current comfort zone, and a far safer non-patch-cables-reliant option might be: UB-Xa D

Yeah, the UB-Xa D looks like a monster synth for a great price! If I didn't already have an OB-6, I'd probably be considering it.

Ah, yes. The OB-6 is such a great sounding instrument. I always loved the Oberheim sound. I can get 'close-enough' to much of it, on the Sledge II {black}, but not the same-same.

The Neutron is awesome but the reason I've been looking so much forward to the Proton is due to the very different voicing/sound of it. They should complement each other really well.

Neutron can be quite raw and gnarly while the proton (judging from the various audio clips posted over the years) seems to be much more gentle and soft.

I'm quite interested to hear them compared when proton is released.
Just looking at the specs of both it seems they share much of the same, only proton has extras. Aside from losing the delay, overdrive and s&h..

If they both have the same oscillators and filters I would imagine a basic patch could sound the same on both? I guess we'll find out around October/november

Post

No, they are voiced differently.. for instace, the volume the oscillators are hitting the filter is at a much more reasonable level compared to the Neutron. The way the filter saturates is also very different and much less unwieldly.

In analogue audio equipment, gain staging is everything. It really makes a HUGE difference. Also some of the components can make a difference in sound with small tweaks yet still have the "same" topology. This was hinted at by some people in the know.

But even if you don't believe that.. just listen to the audio examples. Pull up any Neutron examples and then listen to all the available Proton examples. You should be able to simply hear that they are indeed sounding quite different.
