So my Faderport classic finally went kaput after quite a number of years. So I thought - no problem, get an updated version but after trying it out as well as some other brands I have come to the conclusion that the Faderport classic is the best single channel controller for Cubase.

Why you say? The problem lies in Mackie Control. Every single current controller that I looked at or tested uses the “Mackie controller” format including the newer Faderport and the SSL. Probably a cost saving thing.

What this means is that as long as you have 8 channels all works, but as soon as you have more you are switching banks. So if I go to track 35 now I have to do math - 35/8 is the 4th bank, 7th channel.. downright inconvenient. With the Classic, just highlight the channel and you are in full control.

So after trying a bunch of controllers, I’m back to a secondhand classic. It just works.

I really don’t know about other platforms, but I believe in StudioOne the software is native so none of this switching bank stuff.

Anyways, hopefully this will save someone some aggravation.

Peace.

I had an OG FaderPort 100 years ago when they were first released and it was pretty awesome. I was primarily using it with Sonar and secondarily with Studio One (v2 IIRC). It was so tactile and ergonomic. I've since moved to Mac/Logic and I use Logic Remote on my iPad, which integrates perfectly, but doesn't have the tactile response.

Out of curiosity, have you tried Steinberg's version (iC Pro) for a tablet/phone? I bought it many years ago when I was using Cubase for some collabs, etc., but I rarely used it and don't even recall how well it worked.
