I recommend "Things Crusher" by AudioThing for this.

Although its name implies it's a bitcrusher, that's only half of it- the other half is a multimode filter that that imo sounds really good. It also shows the frequencies being affected with a spectrum analyzer like you want.
It's also only $19, but goes on sale for much cheaper from time to time if you're not in a hurry.

Arturia has several based on real synth filters, then there is LouderThanLiftOff that do this HP, LP, Tilt kind of thing. Then there is the Waves Metafilter that has a built in delay and can run in a gating kind of mode.
