Nope, I didn't contribute to the updated Limiter DSP, but Ableton have plenty of talented developers that could tackle this and I can't wait to check it out myself!

They should of called the drum sampler :"simplest" . Sampler, simpler, simplest would be a great naming convention

Yeah the update is pretty great. The issue I have with them is they went with an online manual for 12, great! this means up to date instant additions and corrections plus an option to download as PDF right?

Nope! the manual has blatant omissions and errors, it’s a mess, keyboard shortcuts are wrong, missing etc. and you can’t download it as a PDF. It’s been months and they still haven’t fixed it.

This is the kind of thing I expect from a single developer making a few plugins, not a large business that boasted 2 million unique users ten plus years ago. Ableton constantly amaze and flummox.

Updated TDR plugins. Noticed some plugin names when Live started, but it went past so fast. So no much delays here when reading new plugins.

My last collaboration was a while back when I updated all the filter code to support ARM and also added the new SD (most efficient) versions of all the filters. It's good to see that the SD filters variants are now in use in a fully optimised way in their latest synths Drift and Meld. All Cytomic delivered filters can compute 4 "voices" at once using SIMD type acceleration on both x86 and ARM, which means lower cpu for polyphonic use. This is why when you pick the number of voices they go up in multiples of 4!

At one point Simpler was deserving of its name but overtime Simpler became alot more powerful than it's initial design and is now a quick and dirty one shot sampler, a loop mangler, and a drum sampler. I think when I was trying to show a producer Simpler, they seemed a bit confused.

Drum Sampler appears to go more back to basics and draws a bit of inspiration from Sampler and Impulse but seems to be all about quick workflow.

Yeah.

I think this is an area where their rapid pace of development is starting to show. The manual seems a bit more confusing now mainly in being hard to find.

I'm guessing after this they will get some downtime to focus on things like good user documentation.

Like I said, no excuses make sense for a company as well off as Ableton. They have the overhead to hire a person to keep the manual in shape, they just decided not to. It pretty much ruins my attitude towards Live. This and releasing Push 3 stand alone without the ability to tie Scenes into a song.

They come so close, then decide, screw it, lets just make this weird obvious omission that we don't have to. I'm not on board with it.

I never ascribe to malice, that which can be explained by incompetence or other lesser human foibles. They should keep the manual in shape though, agreed.

It would be cool if they setup a wiki that could have community contributions on top of them updating the manual themselves.

For sure, Push 3 could be hindered by a hard or software decision they made way too early on to make an even simple scene assembling mode easy.

The manual is just a case of complete indifference though, there's not any rational explanation for it.

Maybe the manual writer left the company. Maybe the code writers got sloppy and stopped documenting the features as they were added. Writing a user's guide is not as easy as it seems and you need someone who really knows the program to do it correctly. But it's not a good look given the size of the company.

Users guides are important, and especially so with Live's sometimes odd methods.

Ableton Live 12.1 is released! (Feb26 12.1.10 is out)
