I'd rather see Logic re-developed. It's so long in the tooth...
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

Kind of what I was pointing out in the Bheringer DAW thread. There are at least 15 viable DAWs probably more like 20, and there isn't one that's 100% stable, has decent UX, and gets updates to old features that are poorly implemented.

Especially the last part, if a DAW has a mediocre part it stays that way forever. Logic is a prime example, it has AI accompaniment, and all kinds of investment in key features, but other areas are just WTF? The built in instruments from 20 years ago are fine, but the GUI's are fugly, and burry messes with the resizing. Like almost every old school DAW it has menus and submenus of features in seemingly not a shred of a logical order. This isn't any different for DP, Reaper, Cubase etc. Then the new DAWs just don't have the features at all, and that's the "improvement".

I don't think a new DAW from the ground up solves this. I use Digital Performer mainly and it's great, but it does suffer from cluttered illogically laid out menus and submenus as well. The thing is things like selecting a single note on the third beat of every measure are possible with it, and I've used that more than you would think you would. It just doesn't exist in Live or Bitwig because the attitude is "less is more". Any new DAW will start out with less, that's all there is to it.

I would rather not see more competition, let the 15 or so DAWs around have a chance at market share, make Logic and Cubase etc. work for their money.

Most musicians don't want to be creative and original. They don't want to create art, they want a quick and easy way to be seen. Software like Bandlab and AI is ideal for them. Creativity and originality won't die out but it will disappear from the public and commercial world.

Sad, but probably true. But one could argue about the definition of musician. if you're not creating at some level, then you're never going to get any real satisfaction out of it.

i assume you meant "funnest"(which isnt a word) as in "most fun" rather than "funniest" which implies "haha" :?

I'm sure this is in the works.

Most musicians don't get satisfaction from being creative and original. Making music has a different function for them. I've seen many times when working with clients in the studio. They don't want to sound like themselves but like their (famous) idol, thinking it will make them just as cool and famous. This is especially sad if you witness happy little accidents, things which could turn into something bigger. For those clients, Bandlab with AI is the perfect choice.

New DAWs should only be developed by nostalgic but still respectable humans living in the soon-to-be beforetime, so that chatBIO and chatENG can focus on quick and affordable body-mods, electrogravitic engines, and inertialess drives.

New DAWs will be developed as new technology evolves.

As long as there are "nostalgic" music creation tools available for my niche music creativity I'm fine. Pseudo musicians get/got their kicks from sample construction kits, so they will get their future AI tools. All for the illusion being a musician I guess. :x  :D

In another 88 years:
Behind my beloved waterfall, in the little room that was hidden beneath the cave, I found it. I brushed away the dust of the years, and picked it up, holding it reverently in my hands. I had no idea what it might be, but it was beautiful

I learned to lay my fingers across the wires, and to turn the keys to make them sound differently. As I struck the wires with my other hand, I produced my first harmonious sounds and soon my own music! How different it could be from the music of the Temples! I can't wait to tell the priests about it!

What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
It's got wires that vibrate and give music
What can this thing be that I found?

See how it sings like a sad heart
And joyously screams out its pain
Sounds that build high like a mountain
Or notes that fall gently like rain

I can't wait to share this new wonder
The people will all see its light
Let them all make their own music
The Priests praise my name on this night
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image

If they do anything beyond ordering something from an AI via prompt they are musicians - just not artists.

New DAWS should be opened, not developed.
