Reaper realises what century it is

Post

Reaper user realises which century it is, has to write one himself...

Reaper bad hurr de hurr.

The song is too slow. It's like reversed cocaine.

To leave some positive words as well:
I used playtime 1 for a couple of live streams during the pandemic and loved it.
I am happy that I could stay with Reaper and still get some kind of session view.
Sure, Ableton and Bitwig appear great in this regard, but why switch DAWs, when Reaper already works for me in most other ways?

Playtime 2 is a great reissue with a polished look & feel, and seems to be even better integrated with Reaper.
This is a great example of how a somewhat open platform and committed community improves the situation for everyone.

Yep. v2 is looking great. There are some unique (I think?) clip launching features in there; Non-exclusive mode - multiple clips on the same track can play at the same time, multiple clips per slot that play simultaneously, scratch matrix arrangement inside Playtime, copy the matrix as-is to the Reaper arranger, full-screen mode, and more. There are a few bugs to iron out as is expected from a beta (he highlights some of them in the video), but it's already very good.

I hope the release works out for him and is financially worthwhile - between this and ReaLearn, he's bringing a lot of functionality to Reaper that would (likely) never be implemented by Cockos.

Liking all this this as well, I didn’t use v1 much but v2 is looking good. Non exclusive means you can split drums by pitch on the same track, would be nice if you could drag clips from Reaper into Playtime directly.

Multiple session recording is good, you can copy your best version to Reaper and still keep the others. I think I prefer the launcher as a floating window compared to the Live and Bitwig screen switching.

As is the Reaper way, ctrl+alt+drag, will render the item and copy it to a Playtime cell. You can also select an item in Reaper, go to the Playtime window, select an empty cell, right-click then 'Import Selected Item' from the menu.

I'm digging full-screen mode : )

Nice, thank you :) I hadn't spotted the import selected item option, I was splitting drum clips by pitch in Reaper, rendering midi then dragging from media explorer to Playtime.

I love Reaper, and huge respect to Helgo for doing this, but I just wonder... why?

Reaper excels at being one of the most powerful DAWs for editing in the Arrangement style view. If I really wanted a workflow oriented around a Session view, I would 100% go for Bitwig or Ableton, both of which are *great* at Session View support (or whatever Bitwig calls the same thing, Clip Launcher view I think?)

Rather than try and take a single tool and make it in to a one size fits all thing, it makes a lot more sense to me to play to the strengths of each tool and use them in the way they are the most effective. As impressive as Helgo's work there is, it will still just be a secondary unsupported workflow in Reaper.

There's nothing wrong with using several DAWs and going to each for their particular strengths.

Why?
V1 was better than Ableton, had more features and used less resources, pretty sure v2 will be even better.
Why not?
Duh

Soooo...... Does this support the Linux versions of Reaper as well?
Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

ReaLearn yes ('okay'), Playtime 2 planned.

Simple reason: Because it allows me to add features that I always wanted, which will probably never make it into Live or Bitwig. It already has some unique features and there will be many more in the future, if everything goes well. Also, easy to forget: Playtime 2 is part of Helgobox, which includes ReaLearn. There's nothing comparable to ReaLearn in Live or Bitwig, and Playtime 2 integrates with it.
