There is a man (not me) so dismayed by the abandonment of Caustic 3.2 that he decided to make his own version of it.

Is this true?

Yes indeed. It will happen.

He is documenting his progress via his YouTube channel called "Saving Caustic"

Things to note...

He has a full time job and a life but is currently ploughing his way through mountains of code. So I don't think it will be ready for some time. However he has made significant progress.

He has appealed for assistance with the coding. Anyone good at C, C++ ?

It's Caustic inspired so it won't be an exact replica.

He is very approachable and welcomes suggestions about the UI and functions.

So if you (like me) still use Caustic or you miss Caustic, check out his channel.

This is great. I made a bunch of songs with caustic back in the day,was sad to see it abandoned.

After watching some of his videos it's still unclear to me what stopped the development of Caustic.
Was it just the lack of revenue due to cracked versions on Android or also reallife stuff? He also had it available on the iOS platform.

I've never been into mobile apps music stuf, but drambo is something verry special .
It rivals top tier stuff with excellent audio rate modulation , filters and osc's , sequencing capabilities etc..
Perhaps you should try it before dismissing it ( but that's what you're here for innit ? )

I have been using Drambo since before it was publicly available, and if I want to dismiss it, I will, that is called an opinion, and everybody is allowed to have them, not that I ever did dismiss it, but that is your failure to grasp a joke rather than anything else!

Unless you are on Windows.

I liked Caustic, reminded me of Orion and old school Roland xox stuff. Couldn't use it on my phone, too small, but had fun on the desktop version. Didn't know dev had stopped. Shame really, but tough competition in the app world.

I used to use Caustic too, on one of those 50 - 80 dollar WalMart tablet computers.
But I got sick of android's wierd idiosyncracies. and too much adware.

Yeah... The windows version 3.2 pretty good I been makin' large PCMsynth presets from my large homemade SF2 where every semitone is sampled out some as large as 80 MB for a single instrument (loopers) never a hitch or freeze...

I pretty much have all the presets that were on the website for all modules soon to make a thread over at the SunVox forum to share out when I have them all organized...

Most have impression from the 3.1 of being 'thin sounding' well that was solved for many modules in 3.2 by going stereo, shoot it has drawable envelopes for automation or tweak, I hate tweak...

Google developed "Special" versions of android for Chrome books and tablets. There are a lot of programs that do run fine on android phones but not on tablets or chromebooks. I don't think you are going to get a better android table / chrome book os in the future mostly just slight bug fixes and minor updates rather than better compatibility. I've got a chromebook. Rarely use it for anything anymore. Chromebook was great when I was on my road adventure during covid but it was mostly for "clerical" use.

thanks for explaining that. i didn't know all that.
i briefly had a chromebook and Caustic ran on that too.
it was like a fancy phone with a huge screen and a keyboard, seemed compatible with a lot of "apps" but not so much for computer compatibility of programs, so I gave it to a homeless guy one winter.
