A replacement for Cakewalk's Transient Shaper?

Hi,
I was working on a bass guitar track yesterday and used Cakewalk's old VST2 Transient Shaper to smooth out the attack and reduce the plucking sound. I had tried a few compressors on their fastest settings, but nothing was as effective as the old Transient Shaper.

I like to keep my DAW projects reasonably future-proof, so I wonder if any newer VST3s specifically tailor the transients the same way the old Cakewalk VST2 does.

If I recall correctly, the Cakewalk version was primarily promoted for its ability to add attack to mellow tones. However, I have found it works very well for smoothing sounds and letting them sit in a mix with less rhymic emphasis.

Is there a good VST3 that I may consider?

Thank you.

Kilohearts free bundle has a good one, simple but good usable results in my view.

Hi,
Thanks for the heads up about this product.

I went and looked at it and was astonished that it was priced at $199 in 2024, but then a sense of distaste set in when I learned that the $199 is a make-believe price to make the make-believe hardware seem like it should cost what real hardware costs. The semi-permanent discount price of $29.99 seemed more like it. I kinda wish they just said $30 and held it steady.

Thank you!

Hi,
Thank you for the suggestion. I have the KiloHearst bundle loaded on my test bed laptop and had not thought about that option.
I looked at the Transient Shaper and liked the simple, no-frills interface. I am going to give it a shot.

Thank you.

I like Kilohearts, NI Transient Master.

thought i'd ask here about another cakewalk plugin, it's called sonitus delay;
https://legacy.cakewalk.com/Support/Kno ... us-fxdelay

I was looking for a replacement for that on mac silicon? I particularly like the panning features by changing each left and right channels to different timings. also the eq for it is incredibly useful. it also just sounds quite nice to me.

I'm sure there are a bunch, but the first one that came to mind was Arturia's Eternity, which has two delay lines and an input EQ (and also sounds very good!):

Edit: Two more I've remembered are D16 Repeater (it's well-liked, but I personally didn't like its sound as much as others), and Audio Damage Dubstation 2 (never used it, so I can't comment on its sound).

Valhalla Delay?

I picked up United Plugins Pluralis with the FL Voucher and it has a bank of left/right presets. Not a bad delay but I think I'd wait for it to go on sale. Plugin Boutique has it for $ 85.00 and in my opinion that's too much for what you get. It could also greatly benefit from a Limiter.

Wow, I'd never even heard of this one, but the combination of a filter plus dry/wet knobs make it pretty unique and useful. The last thing I need is another transient shaper, but I'm still going to add this one to the library.

To the OP, I don't know what the Cakewalk transient shaper sounds like specifically, but here are a bunch of free ones to try out (I'm on PC, so not sure which ones will work with your OS):

Transient, SleepyTime Records
Crack, Surreal Machines
Couture (Free Version), Auburn Sounds
Transpire, Sonic Anomaly
Pancz, Spectral Plugins (multiband)
Transient, Audec

+1 TransReckon is one of the best Transient Designers out there in my opinion. I use it all the time.
