I quite agree with Peter, the OSC Discord channel is a a good thing, but it runs fast, since Discord is a chat not a forum.
The paced, archive style, but still open to discussion, of a forum has many benefit for me. Maybe the Discord chat should be seen as a higher level of involvement for those who are more talkative.
I tried to stay there but I'm to lazy and slow paced, <wink>.

Personally, I see it more as an additional service, especially if you're also interested in the people behind the music. A large part of the content of this Chanel consists of exactly that.] Peter:H [ wrote: Sat Jul 27, 2024 6:56 amOne thought about moving most of the discussions to discord ... and I'm entering the area of pure speculation with this:Viroo wrote: Sat Jul 27, 2024 6:06 amI can only recommend joining the Discord channel. Apart from the fact that I agree with you that some tips and tricks for the current synth are not often discussed here. But the reason for this is that the more detailed discussions tend to take place there and you would have to have the same discussion again here, which is simply not possible. Apart from that, there is also input from people who are not even taking part in the contest and who can give you valuable tips on various aspects of producing music. And that's just one of many points that increase the added value. I hope to see you on the other side...doctorbob wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2024 10:41 pmYeah, OK, I misinterpreted you ... people needs to get on the discord coz we put such useful info there ... you are correct there ...empphryio wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2024 4:34 pm ...
I meant inexplicably don't use the discord which has so much good info. Otherwise ok. As you like ...

If this thread get's less attention, then OSC might look like "not too lively" for new comers, or bystanders that have been thinking about joining for quite some time ...
they might come to the conclusion "hm, not much live and interesting stuff in there. Why would I join?". And that would be the wrong conclusion. But how should she/he know? Might be some very interesting stuff is there, but not immediately "visible" if a bystander only skims through the threads.
May be some OSC discorder is willing to add "Interesting thing xyz is discussed at discord. If you're interested join at <invitation link>" posts to add pointers to discord in the kvr thread?
May be to much speculation and overthinking ... what do you think?
I absolutely agree with you that it feels like there's nothing going on here in the forum at the moment. I can only speculate as to why this thread now seems a little short. But I suspect that the vacation season has played a big part in it, though.
I also really like the idea of referring to Discord more often. Perhaps the thread creator should also point this out directly in the first post. I don't know...
But I think it should be seen less as a secret circle and more as what it is: a further offer that is not primarily about the current synth and tips and tricks for this synth.
And I think I speak for everyone there when I say: everyone is welcome! And it makes absolutely no difference whether you consider yourself a professional or a beginner.

I think because the OSC Discord is organised to have a channel for each synth of the month (alongside all the other things like #feedback, #general, #random etc) tips and tricks and help for the current challenge will be quite lively and actually useful to many. So it's definitely worth dropping in now and then to see what the issues and workarounds are etc.

I've tried to submit for three of the contests so far this year, but ran out of time in each case. I'm out of time for this one too, as I just found I have to be away until the 31st, so I pulled an all-nighter to get this finished. Or not finished, as it happens; I had about half an hour to do the mixing. Oh well...

About Discord, it's really not obvious to beginners until someone accidentally mentions it here. I think it's a good variant to ask our esteemed Richard Semper or BJ Porter to add a permanent OSC Discord link in the template of the monthly KVR page and on the OSC website, under the "Forum threads"point, if it's not very difficult.

42 instances of Reaper 6.83 using Cherry SEM
Some Raum and Replika. ReEQ, Transient Shaper (kiloheartz), Bass Professor, ReaLimit, JS: Saturation, ReaComp, NBIAR feedback time/volume
Did the delay tuning which meant a single instance per note.
I really liked the delay tuning and spent a lot of time messing with it. Had a few other projects I didn't quite finish. On this one I have minimal percussion. Feedback drums and drums in general just didn't fit with it. I really want to first and foremost find whatever are the neatest sounds with the OSC synth and then go from there. So in this case instead of sounding industrial I seem to have been pushed in a western direction, though I'd prefer industrial. Also didn't feel like many non-delay tuning sounds fit with the delay tuning. And there wasn't great variation just within delay tuning. So I don't have a ton of sounds.

38 instances used to create a track.
This instrument is fairly limited to basic subtractive synthesizer functions. It lacks modulation capabilities that even for such simple instrument are crucial (velocity for example). But it does the thing it was intended for pretty well. You can make great sounding analog basses, leads, arps with it. With the modern layering techniques it is quite easy to create complex patches. The VST itself is very stable and easy to use, and the CPU consumption is pretty moderate. I appreciate what the developers are doing to bring such quality instruments for a low price or even for free.
A typical synthwave track with my usual intent to create the "punchiest" synth drums. It has a lot of 90's (early 2000's) videogame music influences that I've grown on.

I apologise in advance for this. In keeping with some older entries of mine, this probably needs an entire offy's worth of prosecco.
Inspired by discussion around the merits of using just noise and the echo effect with full feedback and short repeat time, I ended up with this single instance effort. In an effort to make it a bit less nasty, there is a wee bit of actual oscillator in there somewhere. Anyway, single instance with ten lanes of automation and a MIDI keytracker to adjust the echo delay time.
Wish I could come up with a story to go with this: probably something really bad is happening to some unfortunate person. Um, enjoy...

Bitwig Studio 5.2 with a single instance of SEM and the following additional plugins:

- kHs stereo for widening and pan fiddling
- Valhalla Supermassive just because
- Bitwig Compressor+
- Bitwig EQ+
- TDR Kotelnikov
- TDR Nova

Hi guys here is my entry for the month I was surprised at how well this synth could sound and with a bit of delay it could be turned from a mono to a very full stereo synth. After uploading I think I might make some adjustments tomorrow to ease the into the track a bit more as the waveform looks to be the loudest at the start.
I used 19 instances of SAM in Ableton Live 11 on Windows 10, with the following effects. color limiter, glue compressor, EQ Eight, Drum buss, KSHMR Essentials kick, Utility, Reverb, Compressor, Delay, Auto filter, Arpeggiator, pitch, gate, Ozone imager 2
