got my first ever subwoofer for my living room setup - Wharfedale SW-150, super low price. What an absolute pleasure to listen to music and films with a subwoofer, love it. At the moment I am only playing music that's got a decent sub content...
You folk rocking subs? Which?
_______
Thinking of getting one for my mixing. Got a MOTU Ultralite and Genelec 8030s. Two related questions:
Any studio recommendations at a good price? (Genelec sub too pricey for me)
How would I add it to my system? (For my living room with a receiver and two passive speakers it was just one RCA from the receiver to the sub).

I have a cheap Monoprice Stage Right sub. Idt they sell them anymore. I go XLR outs (L)(R) from my BabyFace pro into the sub. Then from the sub outs XLR (L)(R) to my Kali monitors

Thanks for all the replies.
The Gen subs look lovely but not cheap!
@ Spin Boyz: that makes sense. In the case of the Monoprice that'd be using splitter cables, no?

No splitter cables needed. Here it is on amazon. The picture of the back shows the connections. https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-10-Inc ... BBZV8?th=1revvy wrote: Wed Jul 24, 2024 8:07 pm Thanks for all the replies.

I have a similar setup, the JBL MkI 305s, and a PreSonus Temblor 10 sub. I love the bypass footswitch on the sub, great for A/B-ing. Regardless of the brand, be sure to calibrate dB-wise with pink noise (or whatever the mfr's instructions are) to balance with the mains.

Krk Sub12s and Rokit8 G3. Adding a sub to the setup was a big moment for me, never thought that I was missing so much information in this area of audio signals. When I heared a Dynaudio BM9 with Event 20/20 at my best friends' home, I instantly thought of having chosen the wrong speaker setup though....

I love subs in three places:
1) My car, if it is setup to be a car where I want to listen to music. My daily is not, no music, no subs, I want to hear traffic. My weekend car has a sub, My RV (trailer) had a sub before I sold it. I don't think that it matters much but it was a fairly high quality bandpass sub coupled with a fairly high quality Yamaha mono block. It sounded great.
2) My home theatre/main music listening space. It really adds to the experience. It's not a terrible brand, but it's not a good brad either. IMNSHO, it's pretty much a one note sub. It's fine for home theatre and EDM, but it's not particularly accurate.
3) Live sound, especially for electronic music. If I can't feel it rolling over my chest, it's not worth leaving the house for. I have some older commercial subs, none of which I'm happy with. If I was going to play live music again I'd DIY some small tapped horn subs.
I hate subs in at least one place:
My largely untreated/poorly treated music studio. It's already too much work trying to get things positioned correctly to hear bass accurately. Adding a third speaker to the mix just makes it more difficult. I've tried several times and eventually just purchased large near/mid fields that went low enough that I didn't feel that having a sub is necessary.
