Intel had a more complete response posted on Reddit where they discussed the oxidation issues that effected some skews. Gamers Nexus has some details on it and are pushing for specifics and external warranty care and a examination of declined warranty claims.

I have a very old system and I've been thinking of saving up for an upgrade. I see all these reports about multiple flaws in the 2 latest generations of Intel CPUs, and I have to wonder, would I be better off getting an AMD system?

If so, which AMD CPUs would be good for running several CPU-heavy VST instruments inside a DAW?

I'd wait for a bit if possible, for the new AMD CPU's to arrive, but personally went with R7950X and its been performing like a miracle, with no problems at all.

It's the same generation, Intel just rebadged 13th to 14th. AMD has issues too, but at the moment, yes, go AMD. Intel handles it really poorly, it's getting more and more sketchy, people are confused, even if their system works properly. It's just not worth the headache.
I wouldn't wait for new AMD CPUs, they are currently getting delayed, because issues... And then it takes time to confirm everything works in the long run.

Intel is defective, they are ticking time bombs to break...
Next month build a system with an AMD Ryzen™ 9 9950X or 9900X.

Plug the DAC/Audio in the ASRock orange/yellow USB port and in the
other USB orange/yellow port plug the mouse.
ASRock Lightning Gaming USB ports are good for USB audio Interfaces.

Do not forget to first update the motherboard BIOS.
(Not the same model, but the same process)

In the BIOS do not forget to set the FANS to PWM and disable the onboard sound.

Only need to install:

Since thread has veered a little into "what to buy now"....

I'd save the hundreds of $$$ and build off a dirt-cheap ($150-$175) 12th Gen i5 12600K.

Ride that out for another 10 years.

A must watch. So we actually have a voltage limiter, which you can set and therefore rule out high voltage degradation.

I've been pondering what it could be before...

Worked for me. Now just figure what is a safe limit for you. I haven't been hitting anything above 1.3 anyway, but I could set it to like 1.25 and it would just clock down.

If you lock the clocks, the voltages also come down. That's what I did. Locked all P cores to 53, max Vcore is 1.252 V in idle. I will watch that video later. Until the new microcode comes out I will leave it at reduced voltages, to be on the safe side...

It doesn't look like an elegant solution to me. You mean it is always 5300? or 5300 is the cap and all cores are synced? The guy who made this video, somewhere in the comments claimed, that syncing cores didn't stop his CPU from asking wild voltages once in a while. We can only guess that it may be related to the microcode bug Intel seems to be working on.
However this voltage limit seems to just override CPU requested voltage if it goes over the threshold. If degradation is just the function of excessive voltage, which seems to make sense, this solves it. It will hurt performance, but only for i9s really, as those are ones that want to break over 1.5v, in the end you rather would like them slower than dead. I'm running 2x5700MHz at 1.268v now, no problems.

Note that software monitoring is somewhat useless for detecting voltage spikes. Default polling rate in HWiNFO is 2 seconds (!), and best you set is 20ms.

Second note: voltage limiter setting is present in Gigabyte and ASUS bioses. It seems to be missing in MSI and ASROCK, or possibly it is renamed...
