Yeah, I've known of similar incidents. I wonder about the people using legit "royalty free" sample libraries, and who gets posted first with an unaltered use of a loop/segment, that someone-else then uses and gets busted by the algo being triggered.osiris wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2024 9:24 pm [...] I do know of instances where someone used chords from a song in a guitar playing tutorial and had their vid taken down. On the other hand I see people playing entire songs still up.
Sorry for asking, is it not illegal to sample streaming content off youtube and the internet at large?

It's even on some of the acapellas I buy. Always read any kind of BS no matter how small or time consuming. Basically says you can use these, but if you make a hit record you have to share. (which seems fair)
They will get you even with samples. I did a remix using the synth riff from an old song and I twisted that sucker until it was unrecognizable, but the AI clocked it.

Yes, reading "the fine print" is definitely mandatory. I'm looking at the original CD case (and disks) of 'Percussive Adventures' as I type, which I bought in 1999.

You can challenge that (if you can afford the legal costs and can find what tree to bark up to) because the chords themselves have no copyright. Only lyrics & melody have copyright.osiris wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2024 9:24 pmsomeone used chords from a song in a guitar playing tutorial and had their vid taken down.
Like doing a cover? Afaik nothing can stop you doing that, as long as you state who wrote it and don't take all credits yourself. Then it's up to the publisher to take care the writers receive their fair share of the revenue.
but on youtube you are the publisher yourself, and if you don't receive a dime then...
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

No I'm talking fan made vids. You can do a cover. Distro has something called an 'Umbrella' rider where they get permission from the original artists and you share any revenue with them. I've done it once. Went off without a hitch. (You have to pay a fee for it )
