I'm definitely going to use Charlatan for the first synth, but I'm not sure about a second one. Maybe one from Fullbucket.

this challenge is going to see some crazy results.... like what synth would be the best option (Vital, Surge, Wavetable Synth) too many options... and some of these synth have unbelievable capabilities beyond imagination. As for VST coupling, i would know what would be a good choice. most of these synth have distortion, reverb, chorus, phaser, flange, comprehension, echo, and more already built-in. So what VST would be a real game changer?

Yeah I am totally lost. Probably going to use Vital as i work from presets and then change them until they sound totally crap and repeat the process (Sometimes getting lucky)...

I have a question. If I pick Surge XT, am I allowed Surge rack modules, like it was in the recent contest?

I love music, worked with a number of music/rhythm/dance games like Pump It Up, In The Groove, Cytus and Deemo, and teach music production.

yay! i love any synth challenges!

There have been some discussions of this on the Discord. I will try to clarify here too.

Many synths have built-in Fx and some have their own built-in fx rack:
When using these e.g. Surge/Cardinal etc. as the chosen synth, any fx used within the synth are considered as part of the synth and can be used to the full.
When using the fx version of these synths as the 'full 11 fx plugin' you can stack the fx in your instance in the way intended by the devs, according to how many slots the plugin gives you.
Using the audio-in capability of a synth will result in that instance being considered an 'fx plugin' for the purposes of this contest.

Also: Air windows consolidated is a wrapper for a whole bunch of fx plugins, and should not be taken as a single plugin for the purposes of OSC. Any of the fx within may be used subject to normal OSC restrictions, but only one may be used to the max for the current challenge.
The airwindows consolidated plugin does not allow for stacking the fx, therefore each module could only be used on its own for your 'full 11' plugin. If you want to combine them the SurgeFx plugin gives you the ability to do that as that capability is built-in to Surge.

We want to encourage use of an fx plugin for awesome sound design purposes in addition to your usual synth magic. So it's a chance to put that amazing fx plugin you've been dying to try out through its paces and show off what it can do. Whether it is granular, glitch, endless shimmering reverb, waveshaper or whatever inspires you. There's a lot of excellent free plugins out there :)

Any recommendations of best synths to start out with for making realistic drums/percs? Definitely found this the most challenging part for the cherry synth.

Post

Two questions. Are paid synths allowed? And... can we use only one synth?

Option 1. Choose two freeware virtual synth plugins to make your track
Option 2. Choose one freeware virtual synth and one freeware fx plugin which may be used to the max (full 11)
In both cases additional free fx plugins may be used within normal OSC restrictions.

Paid synths and fx are not allowed for this round, and yes you can just use one synth if you like.

To a previous question:

Over on the discord, folks are saying that using Vital presets is likely the easiest way to get good drums sounds. There are MANY free third party presets available.

So I am going to try to learn Odin 2 this month and use Vital for drums. At least that's the plan.

Never thought of Odin 2, even though I really like that synth. Thanks for the reminder. :tu:
Now I'm probably gonna use it for this challenge. :)

Awesome. thanks. Will start with Vital

@Richard
Just for paranoias sake: If I choose to use Vital, am I allowed to use ...
a.) the Factory Samples coming with the Synth, for instance a sample called "River"
b.) the text-2-speech capability?

Thanks!
