It flew under the radar for a few reasons.
1. It is not really an update of any note, it just adds things to make it work with modern Amigas, which are basically really expensive crap or emulations of the Amiga.
2. Modding an old Amiga with Vamp or Pi accelerators is brilliant, but buying an old Amiga at this point is like trying to purchase rocking horse shit, some geek in a cellar full of Amigas is trying to sell you a basic 500 for £300, nope.
3. Most of the alure of Octamed on the Amiga is gone once you go the modern route (Which this update is about) and use 16 bit soundcards etc, the whole point is the crunchy horrible sound of the original audio chipset.

Do I have fond memories of Octamed on the Amiga, yes, would I spend more than a Polyend Tracker to get it back, no, and lets not even start with Renoise and where trackers are today.

I wouldn't say as according to release note new features have been added:

AHI support for Amiga's retargetable audio subsystem
CAMD Midi Library support
MIDI file support
ARexx support
16-bit and stereo samples support
Hard drive recording

AHI support is a big thing because despite the fact Amiga has 8 bit sound chips you can mixdown to 16 bits and have good quality of the result even without any soundcard. I old days I used Digibooster on Amiga with 030/50mhz where I was working in 8 bit but rendered songs where in 16bit/44khz.

I did not find it crunchy and horrible, when proper hz samples used. Also could use 14bit/57khz on Octamed. Thats without external soundcard.

Some months ago I was checking out MED SoundStudio 1.2 from 2000 one of the first for windows... Might have been ok then but suffers from not potent enough FX, not the case with Arguru's stuff...

But always has the cool right-click on a track for a list of pattern commands-




The made freeware 2.1 has VST ability however the infused HighLife Engine gets rejected by many a plug when scanning because it's seen as a debugger since it can sample a VSTi...

Can't find where to actually buy Octamed 8. I did follow the links and searched for Octamed at Amiga Store. Nothing. Any clues?

I used to use MED and OctaMED all the time on my Amiga A500 back in the late 80s/early 90s.

I would buy it just for the nostalgia if there were ever a clone/port available for modern Windows devices.

What about the Windows version? It always had heavy MIDI timing bugs.
