We definitely need a manual

so this is emulating other plugin compressors?

inevitable.

slightly disappointed there's no preset for waves one-knob compressor, but just because the notion of replacing one knob with 365 amuses me...

I have some presets that match well, but when they were to simple (something like default parameters and maybe just 1 or 2 things more), i did not included them because it is like no variation and no educationnal purpose ...

Comprendre looks incredible, almost like Unisum on steroids. And while I love the possibilities in Unisum, I only use it in mastering because you can get completely lost in the configurability as the minutes and hours just tick away. This... I can't even imagine.

The real challenge here is the UI. The visual feedback is great though a bit dated looking, and based on the videos it seems like it could use some scaling improvements. But I think the feedback visuals are on the right track.

The biggest UI issue I see here is in the labeling. For instance, I have no idea how relate a detector formula to some compressor detector that I'm already familiar with (1176, LA2A, etc). I have no idea what the cryptic labels on the knobs do. Even most of the tab labels at the bottom don't make any sense to me at a glance. I also don't think you need the settings values to go 6 decimals deep. Will anyone be able to discern between a setting at 1.139483 versus 1.139485? That's just exposing needless information.

In terms of the manual, I wouldn't bother. IMO, a mouseover with popup descriptors would be far better than stopping what you're doing to dig through a PDF or online manual.

Just spitballing here... For blocking and tackling compressor work, most people, myself included, have a bank of 4-6 compressors that they like for specific tasks, and just reach for the one they know can do the task at hand quickly. But what something like this could be useful for would be as a platform for other plugin developers to leverage to quickly and easily model emulations or novel compressors. So if you provided APIs to the controls and to a bank of visuals, then a downstream developer could use this as a framework and expose whatever controls and visuals he needs to his end user, and also reskin the UI to taste. Or maybe that's just crazy talk. I'm not a developer so not sure if that's feasible as a technical idea or a business model.

Cool idea though. One compressor to rule them all.

Yeah a mouse-over with pop-ups would be the obvious solution.

What also could help is to give the bottom row some more space, allowing for slightly longer descriptions of the functions.

This really fun to tweak especially driving the fet settings to distortion on drums, the pre-sets are godsend as place to start.
As it will show yellow high lights of the used parameters for that style of compressor.
The biggest bug I have found, oversampling in any setting will immediately freeze lock Fl Studio the latest version and Acon Digital's Acoustica to crash to desktop. Reaper gets unstable with high oversampling through the plugin.

release 1.0.2
-oversampling debug (plugindoctor ok, blue cat patchwork ok) => i let you try with reaper, fl studio, acon digial acoustica etc.

Unfortunately still pretty buggy.

Cubase 13, Win 10 : Lagging of graphics in the daw, had one crash already, sometimes one channel not working with oversampling on, some weird artifacts/sounds when using the eq settings. Overall it feels like an early beta version.

The sound however, is very good. The saturation settings (fet settings) are the biggest surprise, really cool to play around with those.

The price point makes it a no brainer to explore. And the fact how many parameters it has is in my opinion is a magnetizing factor in itself.
Both things combined are making it a definite try and experiment situation.
The Gui may feel cluttered, but look at a modular synth "interface"... it certainly doesnt hold back people from using them :)

But yeah sure, clearing it up, making it easier accessible for the eyes and mouse and hands most definitely is something that can always be altered. And maybe will happen.

really new projects that do something different in my opinion are always worth a look :)

It all works like a charm, stable with them all. :tu:
