Any S-series mk3 users here? I see that NI just released the new update with some serious improvements to MIDI templates for hardware. I owned a S61 mk2 for years and loved the Komplete integration but it was a disappointing POS for kontrolling hardware so I finally sold it. I’m hoping they’ve finally addressed most of my complaints, but I can’t find a direct answer to some of my most important questions:

- do you still need to unplug the USB cable to use the 5-pin MIDI? :dog:

- how many MIDI templates can you store simultaneously on the Kontrol? (I saw a comment on one forum saying that it was just one, but that was before this update)

- how many pages of controller data does each MIDI template support? I’ve seen people mention two pages, but NI describes it as “several pages”

- did NI really not include NRPN as a supported MIDI data type?

You might have better luck getting answers to these questions here: https://community.native-instruments.co ... te-kontrol

I’m asking here because I’m familiar with most of the active hardware-using members and trust their opinions. In the unlikely event nobody here knows the answers, I’ll ask there (but I hate that forum). Based on my experience with that forum, most of its NI fanboys would probably have to google NRPN then try to tell me that I don’t need it.

- do you still need to unplug the USB cable to use the 5-pin MIDI? :dog: - yes but that might change in future but it's not as simple as it sounds apparently - however there is an easy workaround I use which is to patch the USB MIDI internally using something like Bidule to the MIDI out for my RME Fireface (or any other audio/MIDI device)

- how many MIDI templates can you store simultaneously on the Kontrol? (I saw a comment on one forum saying that it was just one, but that was before this update) - so far I already have a dozen, I don't think there is any formal limit, I guess the only limit is memory but they are just small text files so probably a lot

- how many pages of controller data does each MIDI template support? I’ve seen people mention two pages, but NI describes it as “several pages” - 16

- did NI really not include NRPN as a supported MIDI data type? - not yet

Here is a quote from Matthew @ NI. I asked the question on the forum:
The internal storage could fit hundreds of thousands. We have an arbitrary limit but I doubt any user will ever hit this. Effectively unlimited.

Link to it is here, but the question is asked on the previous page
