I had a rehearsal with a drummer the other night playing some punk-rock covers..

Didn’t have time to pack my pedals in advance so raw-dogged it w my 2 guitars straight info one of his studios combo amps. He had quite a few combos

-2 fenders, a Marshall DSL combo, a cream Crate ‘blues’ combo (name?) and a Blackstar HT40 Club.
I choose the Blackstar ..but was not impressed w the sound the whole session. :x Anyone else tried these Blackstar amps? Is it just me or are they cheap sounding…? Better for metal maybe..?

So I’m think of getting this pedal now for a small fx unit for rehearsals.

So fellas. what’s on your pedalboards atm for rehearsals/gigs? What’s your most indispensable pedal (besides a tuner) ? And do you find it hard to dial in amps playing with a drummer in a studio. I’ve always struggled with getting a decent tone at most rehearsals, usually it’s the studios amp I use btw.. should I go w the fender or crate from better results?

Donner -> kebab !!

Jokes aside, I've got a Tech-21 Tri-OD, from the guys that made the SansAmp. Very versatile little box.

It sits in a bag with the rest of all the stuff. If you have time to unpack, then you also have time to pack.

If that combo was so disappointing, I had switched after 5 minutes.

And it sounds like you suffer from GAS: never satisfied with the gear you have, always on the lookout for "greener gras" stuff. That ain't ever gonna happen. You do it with the things you have, not with the stuff you dream of.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image

Donner Kebab…Ha ,you still need practice but you’re getting better  :P

Easy tiger. Dis rehearsal was a last minute thing. GAS ?course I got the GAS!! I play electric guitar, who doesn’t R u kidding me :o the Amp is *very* important imo it makes all the sound dude.

Had never tried a Blackstar tube amp ,but seen glowing reviews which is why I choose it plus it was up on 2nd level of a rack next to his kit .. and he pointed to it and said “ use that one”,

I spose what I meant, in general, was - getting a decent guitar sound at rehearsals with a drummer has always been a challenge for me. Id forgotten How LOUD AF drums are. Esp in small rehearsal rooms. (It’s been a while).
A 2x12 is necessary imo

Earplugs are on my shopping list now also.. my ears are still ringin!

tech21 hey. Is that the only pedal you use?? I remember the old T21 Trademark Amps .. Sansamp in a combo. Sounded pretty good those : tu:

Wicked lil studio too. So much to choose from :o
I’m used to rehearsing in shit holes with really crap rental amps tbh.

I own a Fender solid state it’s somewhere in my garage full of furniture at my Ex’s place.:D

Tonex

Don't you have a Kemper? Why not just bring that?

Nah that wasn’t me in that video. I can’t afford that kind of setup :(
But it’s a great demo of the guitar I have. (SX LP special).:D
I had a few cheaper multi fx units w modelling .. Boss ME50/80 ,Boss GT1, Mooer (?)something.
But they didn’t cut it so sold. Too harsh.
Guitar Rig via a laptop via a PA did sound fantastic but too fiddly.
I prefer an amp + pedals more straightforward for an old dog like me. I’m currently thinking the older style battery-op pedals to save on cables and psu’s even (!) :scared: just lay down ,click together and Rock!!
That Donner TT has a psu I know but as a one pedal solution it’d be cool.

What pedals do you currently own? If none, get the full Tonex. If you have some good ones already, maybe the cheaper Tonex One is enough.

I’ve got a big, heavy old pedalboard suitcase thing full of old cheaper pedals. Dunlop Wah, danelectro fuzz, cheap Joyo delay, cheap behringer compressor, Nano green Mile TS, aria stereo flanger for 2 amp stereo setups ( must try that again), some other assorted dirt pedals Boss OD1 etc. I just cbf with daisy chain psus.

And don’t trust digital for rehearsal / live. (Too harsh/square/sharp/fizzy sounding imo)
Plus that kind of setup needs FRFR’s or PA etc .. too much mucking around. Then there’s all the patch generating , tweaking etc v time consuming and rabbit hole stuff. Messing w IR’s etc etc

Do you find dialing in a sound at rehearsal is difficult esp with big drums in the room or nah?
What’s ur setup/ amps/pedals for rehearsing with a band..?

I just wanna plug a guitar into 1-2 fx boxes into an awesome amp and sound like Jimmy Page ,Jon Spencer, Keef Richard’s, Angus, Johnny Marr or whoever yknow?

I just had a lightbulb. I will use the aria flanger and run two combos L& R of the drummer next time :tu:

I don't get invited to rehearsals since I have too many pedals. heres some of them that I might want to bring.

Tonex lets you turn off cabinet modeling in the Global settings. Handy when you're not using an FRFR. I don't spend time making presets, I just tweak it real-time as if it were an amp.

OD-1 is killer.

Haha awesome :hyper:
So you’re ‘That Pedal Guy’ with the huge floorboard of flashing lights :hihi:
When I see that guy coming in at start of rehearsal .. I got out for a few smokes . Cos I know there’s gonna be a while of tweaking knobs and testing sounds.

Heh I do like pedals, though my situation has changed and I can't afford them like I used
to be able to. It's been a while since i bought any pedals. Tho I'm sure there will be more
sooner or later.

I once stood in for a buddy on a gig and he told me that using his pedalboard was mandatory. Gig came and I couldn't figure it out so I left everything off, band leader loved it.
