Maybe it's just the lack of stupid numbers of HW models, I've gotten used to that I guess. Of course it boils down to the tone, so Ill reserve judgement. In the least the static IR thing is insufficient these days imo, what with all the dynamic stuff going around, which really is superior ime. I use a loadbox and boutique amp a lot, the cab sim is paramount for me.
Of course, I have most of the usual suspects in that arena already.
What boutique amp I’m curious now.
I wanna Dr. Z ..if I win the pokies maybe :hihi:
A Z-wreck or Z-master (Joe Walsh) perhaps
B worth the money I reckon

Thx, yea no doubt I was smoking some dope when I made that.
I liked what you posted as well, kind of impressed at the loudness of
the vocaroo thing. The recording sounded much better than I thought
it would.

-Cheers
Thanks man :tu: I’m getting handy now w Reaper now and recording myself. And yes the Vocaroo is awesome .. and for free ! :hyper:

That was just a one-take improv jam.
Listening back I hear it sounds quite like the Beatles ‘Taxman’.. I was trying for Jon Spencer Blues Explosion tho :D
btw: it's the same with images, i recall you asked about that in another thread. You host them
anywhere you like and link them in your post here.

Anyway, if you hadn't figured that out, that's how you get past the KVR size limits. They suck
really, Gear Space is much more forgiving when it comes to attachments.

If by dynamic IR you mean being able to move the mic position then you can do that in s-gear. But maybe you meant something else.

Not the same thing that's correct. So...

You can take one of those from a speaker cab and multiply it against your audio (e.g. convolution) and it will mostly sound like that speaker is producing your audio. However, that's just a static effect, and in the real world, speakers respond differently or 'dynamically' based on different qualities of the signal. :)

Dynamic IRs, are supposed to somehow reproduce that dynamic response, and therefore sound more realistic.

Okay, you've got me googling it and ... the only thing I can really find is something from Celestion called DSR (dynamic speaker response) https://www.celestionplus.com/products/ ... ponse-dsr/, a little discussion on the S-gear boards about them and a review from Sound on Sound.

This was from about 3 years ago so not sure what's happened since but at the time it seemed like only Celestion, they were a subtle improvement for some people without being groundbreaking but you needed to use them with Celestion's speakermix plugin.

Have things moved on since then because I'm not seeing an awful lot about it apart from the initial flurry back in 2021?

There are a few companies starting to use them. Overloud, Two Notes, Celestion of course.
There are a lot more that don't use Dynamic IRs yet. It may be a fad, if not, no doubt Scuffham
will get on board sooner or later. Now we have the AI based modelers like Tonex and Neural
in the game as well, they model everything, the amp, pedals, gear etc. I don't even know if
they use IR's at all. I think they do something similar initially at least.

Done a bit more digging (not sure Two Notes counts though) and it feels like the jury is still very much out on Dynamic IRs although there may well be something in it in the future.

Anyway, have you tried s-gear yet? It very much focuses on quality over quantity in terms of amps/pedals etc but I rather like that as option overload is something that does hold me back.

Not yet,...

I do have the celestion and overloud sims, they are both quite good imo. The celestion one is unfortunately not well maintained by celestion, that's the biggest problem with it I think. I like it better than the overloud version actually. Softube has an interesting one that models IR's and cabinets mathematically, which is pretty neat imo. I have that too

*I believe Two Notes Gnome uses dynamic IRs... pretty sure.

As I said above, I can't explain why but I just found myself enjoying playing through s-gear. I didn't think "wow, this sounds amazing" but I did find myself playing for longer and just messing around more every time I fired up the demo and had more fun playing guitar than with the other amp sims I had and demos I'd downloaded.

But that may just be me.

The only thing I heard of is the Bogren thingy which didn't convince me.

Lately I've been using Supercabinet from overloud via TH-U with a few of the Jensen 'FluidIR's'
as they term it. I still like SpeakerMix Pro better, but I haven't used it in a while as I'm on a new
pc and have not installed it yet. For me it works fine, but there is a bug where you have to
refresh your login sometimes to see your owned speaker models that is a bit annoying. Celestion either doesn't care or is unable to fix it. Some users have given up on them I guess.

Anyway, mostly I don't use amp sims, only cab sims...

I have the atomic jr currently, but I plan on getting another one next year maybe. Not sure
which exactly, it will cost quite a bit more than the jr. Though I don't really need a louder
one heh, I have to use an attenuator with this one to turn it up past half without pissing off
the neighbors. Indeed some are Michaels takes on fender amps, not all though.

They are handmade/wired works of art, every one of them. The jr was about $1600
with shipping, less than a lot of other bigger name amps on the market.
I have their ribbon mic and attenuator too, another $800-ish for that stuff.

Anyway, I am a big fan of them, no Dr Z for me very likely, because of them.
