*sigh* There's no "SSL desk emulation" in Reason. People without a clue shouldn't write articles.

"There are also randomisation options for notes and velocities, with properties to set how much each is randomised per click."

Oh man, "unbiased review" - again totally nonsense, come on guys please really think before you write here. You get the feeling with that review that they are promoting functions (like F8 tool window that is now attached) as new and great stuff that has been around for ages. All the new tools are availible in similar ways as Rack extension for little money. Delay and synth are nice but not asked for and could be created in similar way even with a Combinator 1. Reason Studios could have written the article itself. It really sounds like the guy who has written the article has abseloutly no clue about Reason and it's problems. They did not code any new features (except "multiple midi clock out"), they just re-arranged the windows!!! This is just such an outstanding bad update. I would say its the worst of all ever and the first one I did not buy.

This is a very, very euphemistic review. Terrible.

Post

And on top of that huge disaster I bet they are going to deliver point updates in future whose only content is to optimize this new floating browser and some bugfixes over and over and over again and maybe drop some new Synth / Effect nobody asked for.

What a big mess this all is.

The only thing Reason 13 made me do “Faster” is to walk away from it :tu:

But, but the person on the Internet said it didn't have an SSL modelled mixer!

Post

Oh man, this SSL mixer talk now here is just another sign how important it would be for them to change their whole communication strategy. The person responsible for this mess should resign immediately.

Post

Their mixer visually resembles SSL Mixer. One has to be a complete brick not to realize it. The DSP running in that mixer and how close it is to the real hardware mixer is another story. But to say this isn't an SSL model at least when it comes to mixing workflow - how dumb!

Post

I have no idea how accurate it is to the real thing, but I quite like the SSL bus compressor emulation. It does the glue thing nicely.

uncritical doesn't mean unbiased. it's actually a strong positive bias to not include shortcomings or trade-offs of a system.
Brzzzzzzt.

I think you guys need to do some reading up on what a console emulation actually is (i.e. what the general consenus on the definition of said term is).

Hint: it's neither a compressor nor is it an EQ.
(Which isn't to say that console emulation aren't sometines including one or the other or both of these.)

And the "DSP running in the mixer" in Reason is simple summing, as in just about every other DAW.

And yeah: one has to be an "absolute brick" indeed to not realize this - we can agree on that. ;-)

Post

Emulation or not, it's just insane that they still are not able to fill the empty space on the top right of the "SSL" Mixer with some e.g. tape saturtation or any useful gimmick.

And there is still no dark mode (not even announced !!!) for this mixer .... in 2024. :!:

And you always have to create an automation lane for every mixer channel manually befor it is recording your movement.

This is all just so unbelievable.

It would be good if they added to the mixer, yes they could have built-in analog modelling there like many console emulations do ...saturation, analog warmth, whatever...its the perfect oppurtunity what with the virtual console setup

They could, they could, they could....since ages the same unfulfilled wishlist of the simplest QOL improvements.

They should finally move and add it, now.

you and some other guys here remind me of people in the former GDR (German Democratic Republic). they made a lot of "Eingaben", means "petitions" to the government and its leader and every once in a while some single mini requests were fulfilled, but after a while the frustration got viral. etc. etc. etc.
Reason is just a tool, not a nation or a government. :nutter:
just admit, you've grown out of it and move on. there are lots of other options. i transfer my old unfinished Reason projects to Ableton 12 and i use the Reason Plugin, whenever i want it to use. in case you want to have the whole cable fun, there is a render function, folks!  :borg:
