53 is the cap, but I'm on balanced plan anyway, so most of the time its: 0.7V/1100MHz.
I will check out v limiter method.
How did you overclock 2 cores to 57?

Post

I don't remember where exactly in BIOS it is, but you can manually set turbo frequency cap for individual cores. After imposing voltage limit, I felt more relaxed and wanted to see if it is stable like this.. 2x57, 2x56, 4x55.
I tried "sync all cores" before, but my Windows install doesn't seem to be comfortable with it. Random programs seemed to get really sluggish. HWiNFO became quite unresponsive for example.

Intel is in total collapse as we speak. “Stability issues” indeed!

“In a sure sign that a stable hand is at the wheel, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger is tweeting out inspirational Bible verses.”

Looks like a viral thing, first unstable CPU, now unstable CEO...

Not on my bingo card for sure.

To be fair, Gelsinger apparently tweets bible verses every Sunday, so that was maybe a bit of a hit job from the ‘esteemed’ journalist. But it is true that Intel is collapsing.

They missed their quarterly earnings by a lot, are cutting 15% of their workforce and billions in costs, and lost 26% of their value last week. And that was before the massive market crash today, on news of a global recession.

There you go... Undervolt him.

Man I feel like I dodged a bullet. My latest machine was going to be a 14th gen Intel machine until I got it home and realized that I could not fit two GPUs in it. So I took it back, did more research and built my own AMD 12c machine with an overpriced motherboard that could host two * 8 pcie4 lanes in x16 slots far enough apart for a pair of modern GPUs.

I was marginally interested in a core ultra machine until this all came out. I'm going to stay on team red for a few years and wait for this to wash out. The snapdragon stuff is not helping them either. I expect to see mainstream windows laptops going that route in force over the next few years.

Well, I hope my 14700K with max 1.261 Vcore @5.5GHz (found new settings to lower the V even more), will last me a long time. It will be hard to sell at a fair price anyway on the SH market...

Hopefully the microcode update that Intel promises by mid-August pans out and helps. Will see.

I don't have much hope for that. I think they are just buying time.

Anyway on ASUS boards you can just limit VID to be asked. Which somewhat seems to work.

MSI and ASUS just dropped beta bios with microcode update.

Intel does seem to be in a bit of a pickle these days. I want them to figure it all out and get back in that saddle. However, as a consumer, I'm not buying their new chips for a while. I've gone back and forth with Intel/AMD for decades. I remember the AMD-586 chips at the tail end of the 486 era as being a bargain, but they weren't as good as Pentiums so I went from a 386sx to an AMD 586, to a Pentium 90, and then my first dual CPU machine was an Athlon machine with modified consumer chips. You could put a drop of silver paint on a couple of pads on the chip and the motherboard would read it as a server chip so that you could put two of them on a motherboard, woot! But, sometime after that, it was back to Intel for the core series where I stayed through Ivy Bridge until I stopped building desktop machines. I bought a prebuilt 8700k a few years back but my newer machines were mostly laptops where I've bought a mix depending on purpose.

Like I said, I was a bit excited about the 14th gen stuff and bought a pre-built. I really don't like building computers anymore but when I need certain niche features it's often hard to find a pre-built that will get the job done. Here's to hoping that Intel survives all of this and that the 15th gen coming at the end of the year gives AMD something to worry about. Without the competition, both firms have become complacent at various points in time. Gamer's Nexus was pretty critical of the 9700 series parts as being too efficiency focused and feels that they turned the dials too far in that direction.

AMD 486DX2 was in my first PC, the price would decide back then, though I think Cyrix had even cheaper CPUs.

I was building machines for people at the time. Cyrix were cheap, but also not as stable or as "compatible," whatever that meant at the time. The AMD was basically a fast 486 that was quite a bit cheaper than a Pentium.

I don't wish for those days TBH, ugh.
