We have updated our flagship synthesizer, Discovery Pro to version 8.4. This release brings a host of performance optimizations and enhancements.
What's New
Oscillator Optimizations: The filter and oscillator code has been fine-tuned for improved performance on x86 processors. Apple ARM users will notice a significant speed boost due to optimized code.
Wave Oscillator Optimization: Processing speeds have been increased by moving from scalar to SIMD processing. The new NEON code for ARM processors and optimized SSE4.1 instructions provide more efficient performance.
Filter Improvements: The tangent plot has been optimized using scalar optimizations, reducing CPU load and improving efficiency for smoother, more responsive filters.
Enhanced 4x Oversampling: 4x oversampling has been implemented to enhance audio fidelity, offering superior sound quality.
2x Undersampling Mode Fixes: The gain compensation issue in the 2x undersampling mode has been resolved, ensuring consistent sound across all settings.
New Bounce Oversampling Configuration: Oversampling settings can now be customized during offline rendering with the new Bounce.xml file. The default is set to 2x oversampling for optimal sound quality, with the flexibility to adjust as needed. This file can be found in the Documents > discoDSP > Discovery Pro > Config folder.
New Default Settings: Discovery Pro 8.4 now defaults to 16 voices and 2x oversampling, providing a solid starting point for sound design. These settings can be easily changed through the Edit Menu or by clicking the Voices LCD.
Updated LCD Status Sections: The LCD now displays the current waveform and destination for LFO1, Arp Mode, and destination for LFO2/Arp. It also shows the waveform for both Oscillator 1 and 2 when buttons or LEDs are pressed.
Discovery Pro costs $199, and a free trial is available at https://www.discodsp.com/discoverypro/.

We just released version 8.4.3. We’ve improved the envelope handling, so filter and amp envelopes now continue smoothly from the previous note’s envelope point, fixing the retriggering problems. We’ve also enhanced the portamento (glide) function in mono mode, especially with the auto feature. Now, portamento works correctly during legato play, ensuring seamless transitions between notes.

Hi
I have had 'discovery' for more years than I can remember - I have always felt that a 'Phaser' would be a great addition to this synth...

There is a phaser already. Its to the left of the 'Voices LED'.original flipper wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 10:53 am Hi

Incoming 8.4.4 will get a new random 16-step Markov Chain Arpeggiator mode, a sophisticated evolution of random arpeggiation. This innovative feature combines the excitement of randomness with the intelligence of machine learning, creating a uniquely engaging and ever-evolving musical experience.
At its heart, the Markov Chain mode employs a dynamic probability matrix that adapts as it plays, learning from its own note selections to create subtle, evolving patterns. Unlike traditional random modes, this approach generates sequences that feel both unpredictable and musically coherent, with each note influencing the likelihood of subsequent choices.
The mode also seamlessly integrates with the octave range parameter, allowing for dynamic vertical movement in your arpeggios. As you play, you'll notice patterns emerging and transforming, adding a layer of organic complexity to your compositions.

Discovery Pro 8.4.4 will be released this week.
- New Markov Chain Arpeggiator mode: This mode enhances random arpeggiation by using machine learning techniques. It creates evolving musical patterns through a dynamic probability matrix that learns from its own note selections, generating sequences that are both unpredictable and musically coherent. Each note influences future choices, resulting in unique and captivating arpeggios.
- Enhanced VA Oscillator Label and LED Click logic: The LED Click and Label Shift+Click now toggle the oscillator On/Off and remember the last On state. When the label is clicked, if the oscillator is Off, it turns On to the last state. If the oscillator is already On, clicking the label toggles between Free Run and Retrig Phase modes. The last On state is always updated after changes, ensuring a seamless user experience.
- Fixed WAVE engine loop clicks: The WAVE engine has been refactored with up-to-date and improved DSP techniques, eliminating unwanted loop clicks and enhancing overall audio quality.
- PI values on the DSP have been updated as long doubles: To further improve audio quality and precision, the PI values used in the DSP calculations have been updated to long doubles, ensuring more accurate mathematical operations and smoother sound generation.
- Updated XML save functions: The XML save functions have been updated to ensure compatibility, reliability, and efficient data management when saving and loading presets and settings.
- Refactored rounding integer functions: We have refactored some rounding integer functions to improve efficiency, resulting in faster processing and smoother overall performance.

Markov Chain Arpeggiator mode sounds interesting, but this is going to look very expensive now next to the new free Nord Lead 2X ROM Emulator plugin that came out this week
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S49MK2, S1, BWS, Live . PUSH 3 SA, Osmose, Summit, Pro3, Prophet8, Syntakt, Digitone, Drumlogue, OP1-F, MPC Live II, Tracker Mini, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Nord Drum3P, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Thanks for your interest, but comparing a Nord Lead 2X emulator to Discovery Pro isn’t really accurate. When you look at the features side by side, it’s clear that Discovery Pro offers more advanced options and innovation. Its quality speaks for itself and goes beyond what the original Nord Lead offers.
As far as we know, Nodal Red 2X is donation-based and requires Clavia’s ROM, which could raise legal concerns. However, we’re glad to have it for comparison, as it only reinforces Discovery Pro as the better choice for producers.

And the Nord emulation will eat CPU compared to this
