FX pedals to pair with synth

Hey guys,
I got myself a korg minilogue xd and I'd like to pair it with an fx pedal. The ones I have my eyes on are Hologram's Microcosm and Chroma Console and Chase Bliss's Habit and Thermae. I could only get one. I like the granular/pitch shifting of the pedals but I wonder how musical they really are. I'd use it to create phrases or accents for the use of other producers in the context of hip hop, rnb and similar modern styles.
All input is appreciated

Probably Microcosm. There is another I'd recommend but I don't want to throw off your thread by mentioning it this early on, since it isn't one of the four you're asking about.

go ahead, it's all about sharing here. I'm new to hardware so you might know about gems I don't that could better fit what I'm trying to do. I'll look into it and decide. The budget caps at $400 tho haha

found it decently priced on Reverb, will look into it

Eventide H9 MAX. Make sure to get the MAX, it's hard to know what algorithms the lower models come with and I wouldn't want to see you accidentally get stuck with a bad one.DannyGhost wrote: Tue Aug 13, 2024 10:07 pm go ahead, it's all about sharing here. My choices were Eventide H90 and Elektron Analog Heat +FX. I tend to use the Elektron more on my drum machines than synths, though.

I mostly use UAD and native plugins for granular and the like. Hard to go wrong with Portal or Other Desert Cities, but I keep a Helix HX Stomp XL on my Prophet 12 and it’s very nice. Most effects are pretty standard fare, though good quality, but a few are pretty interesting, and the way you can route everything and manipulate it with expression pedals can be really fun. I use a db Labs 4E Dual Axis pedal with it.

I often run synths through my Axe FX II XL+ to add effects. Sometimes eve run them through amp models with effects. I also recently picked up a Digitech ISP 33B that I've been using some also. There are no wrongs.

Out of these, I’d choose the Chroma Console. It’s an an intuitive multi-fx pedal that sounds great, has just enough controls. I see suggestions for H90, but while having some great effects, is pretty limited, unless I you primarily need reverb & delay, it is deep. If you’ve got room, another monster FX device for the genres you mentioned could be Roland MC-707. It’s got like 90 FX, you can route audio in / through to chain, then you can use/sequence scatter for some crazy mangling, and you can sample the result right in it. Maschine+ similar, maybe even a Roland SP404-MK2. But none of them are compact/easy like the Chroma Console. I’m in love with that Pedal.

Something to consider: a lot of expensive digital pedals don't really do anything that more affordable plugins can't do. But some inexpensive distortion and fuzz pedals are hard to match with plugins.
By all means do go hardware for the workflow and live performance reliability. But I'd strongly suggest playing with software to get a good idea of what effects will be most useful, and how you want to interact with them.

Definitely there are really amazing distortion and saturation plug ins. And easy to try multiple options.imrae wrote: Sat Aug 24, 2024 11:32 am Something to consider: a lot of expensive digital pedals don't really do anything that more affordable plugins can't do. Also definitely not every guitar pedal works with synths.
But you can't beat a real pedal that works well with synths

Sound Better - Halo Effect https://shop.soundbetter.com/halo-effect/
As a previous owner of the Microcosm, I can say with full confidence this is the software equivalent to it in the box, and I've tried many ,but none we're as good as the Hologram Microcosm, but Halo is the best and in my case the best reason for me to have sold my beloved microcosm without any regrets.
This lives on my FX bus send's in Daw, and I can add it to additional tracks and realtime demo and get the balance of my mixes accordingly. It's not a cheap plugin,it is ilok, but it's worth it.
