I did a lot of Experiments back in the days vital was quite new. And I think some if these patches will make it into this round ...
Here's one. A section of noise spliced into a sawtooth waveform. This get's really dirty ... https://forum.vital.audio/t/splice-wave ... ation/4783
I remember a "We are the robots" patch that I started and sebaer took over and refind it... and many more. Should all be on the vital forum.
And there were guys that did this "patches of the month" threads which collected all patches that useres provided... a real treasure trove, example: https://forum.vital.audio/t/january-202 ... hread/4233
So for all OSCers that plan to use Vital, check out the Vital forum.

Since this is one of the "name your own price" case and it is actually possible to get it for zero amount of currency... How would this stand in this round's rulles?
I assume it is not allowed since it is sample based, right? The Live Scratcher is preloaded with 2 samples. By the chance I'm not loading any custom sample wouldn't it lay under the similar terms as wavetable synth and still be allowed? (by not using it for straight unmodiefied sample playback)

Thanks for sharing. The tutorials by Databroth, Jazen and especially Eric Bowman on youtube are also really good. I guess I'm going with Vital also. Between all the tutorials and how much it can do. Though so far I'm super uninspired somehow. To be halfway through the month with no real WIP is for me concerning. Not sure why... Maybe because I can't say, "Oh, here's the thing this synth is really good at. I'll make my track based off that.." Because it's good at so many things. Or maybe just too much time devoted to tutorials.] Peter:H [ wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2024 6:48 am Good old vital.

Doesn't 'freely available' mean across platforms and DAW?z.prime wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2024 4:39 pmIs allowed (see Richard's post)Medniex wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2024 8:25 am "name your own price" ... is actually possible to get it for zero amount of currency

No. Freely available only refers to obtaining the software. A macOS or Linux user could freely download Windows-only plugin, they just can't use it. Freely available is not coupled to platform / interface.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2024 5:04 pm Doesn't 'freely available' mean across platforms and DAW?
As an example, if something had to be cross-platform, it would disallow using Logic. But clearly Logic is allowed for macOS users and has been used by lots of participants over the years.

So if I pick Phase Plant I can have as many synths I want to because I can build them inside PP. And then pick Snap Heap for an fx plugin and there I have almost any possible fx.RichardSemper wrote: Fri Aug 02, 2024 10:13 amThere have been some discussions of this on the Discord. I will try to clarify here too.Vospi wrote: Fri Aug 02, 2024 8:29 am I have a question. If I pick Surge XT, am I allowed Surge rack modules, like it was in the recent contest?
Many synths have built-in Fx and some have their own built-in fx rack:
When using these e.g. Surge/Cardinal etc. as the chosen synth, any fx used within the synth are considered as part of the synth and can be used to the full.
When using the fx version of these synths as the 'full 11 fx plugin' you can stack the fx in your instance in the way intended by the devs, according to how many slots the plugin gives you.
Using the audio-in capability of a synth will result in that instance being considered an 'fx plugin' for the purposes of this contest.
Also: Air windows consolidated is a wrapper for a whole bunch of fx plugins, and should not be taken as a single plugin for the purposes of OSC. Any of the fx within may be used subject to normal OSC restrictions, but only one may be used to the max for the current challenge.
The airwindows consolidated plugin does not allow for stacking the fx, therefore each module could only be used on its own for your 'full 11' plugin. If you want to combine them the SurgeFx plugin gives you the ability to do that as that capability is built-in to Surge.
We want to encourage use of an fx plugin for awesome sound design purposes in addition to your usual synth magic. So it's a chance to put that amazing fx plugin you've been dying to try out through its paces and show off what it can do. Whether it is granular, glitch, endless shimmering reverb, waveshaper or whatever inspires you. There's a lot of excellent free plugins out there![]()
... oh no commercial fx. Well in Bitwig we have the grid and plenty of fx to play around with.

This one is interesting. It doesn't work as a plugin processing sound in real-time but instead with it's own or imported samples. So it's an instrument not an effect.Medniex wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2024 8:25 am Since this is one of the "name your own price" case and it is actually possible to get it for zero amount of currency... Theoretically you should not be able to use it on your own rendered audio cause one is not supposed to modify a part once bounced to audio (Although I'm pretty sure that has happened in the past using EQ and compression to mix bounced tracks and no one really cares)
Also built-in wave-tables have always been allowed but not patches with built-in samples
This is enough to keep one up at night

Perhaps the rules have changed (It's been many years since I've entered), or maybe I've just always misunderstood. I just thought that with the exception of DAW FX, anything used had to be available to all users. The exception to this was if the particular OSC was a synth only available on Windows.z.prime wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2024 5:10 pmNo. Freely available only refers to obtaining the software. As for DAW FX: Might be wrong, but I thought that was a later revision to the rules. Before that, didn't we all have to use freeware FX, that were cross-platform?

Phase Plant is not free so can't be used this month (sometimes there are exceptions, but this isn't one of them). But there are a ton of free synths to choose from.AlQuzMar wrote: Thu Aug 15, 2024 8:12 am

With regards effects; Any free effect, or DAW effect is fine except for chorus, flanger, phaser, pitch shifting etc. those are not generally allowed, and saturation should be using sparingly so as not to affect the sound too much (like adding some harmonics to a bassline is fine, but not crushing a sine into a square wave : ) However, this month you can have 1 effect 'go to 11', including those normally not allowed.
