I really wasn't expecting much, TBH. I loved my MW XT, but I don't have any experience with the modern Waldorf hardware. Nor was I was a fan of any of their prior VSTs. I guess I have a soft spot for the older MW sounds because I'm really impressed by this—much more so than with Xenia. Xenia is a remarkable technical achievement, but the MW XT doesn't exactly translate to a great VST UI/UX experience. This release, on the other hand, is much more engaging and immediate. It makes me want to experiment and play with it.

And it sounds pretty fantastic, too! That surprised me, especially compared to their other VSTs, or at least based on my memory and limited time with them. I pretty much ignored the M, and I'm starting to question that now, but I have long lusted for an Iridium.

The M sounds pretty great, and is a lot more synth than this, but less synth than the 3rd Wave. I'm happy I ditched the M for the 3rd Wave, especially now that there's this, but if money was more of a consideration the M is definitely worth it.

Unfortunately or possibly fortunately, I just don't have the physical space for any full-sized synths. I have a Pro-3 and that's it aside from a Minilogue XD and a bunch of desktop modules. If I could do it, the 3rd Wave would be on a short list for sure.

I’ve been lost in these sounds for hours. The trips you can take in these possibilities in sound are pretty incredible and very interesting with the Microwave.
I too had the M ,and it’s very much alike the experience in sound I found with the M apart from the hardware. I’ve mapped my midi keyboard and this experience is great!
Now if they’ll just port their code one by one, I think Waldorf has a found new business plan for those who don’t wanna buy more and more hardware, this is the answer. Great job Waldorf !

Don't Waldorf have a really bad past at supporting/updating their software?
Duh

Yeah, lots of people felt let down by Largo 2. For me, this is a big step in terms of software development. Let's hope they are getting their act together.

I am not so enthusiastic, nothing new soundwise. I will give the demo a try though, before making my verdict.

So might just lose my mind too. :wheee:
Should I say, “I told you so,” no, or wait until later?
Hmmm, did you really. :? I remember you said something about filters and also mentioned the MW.

Classy.

Spare me the "we only suggested improvement" farce of a typical KVR armchair product expert.

By your logic, everyone should make a copy of the U-he browser. Until some other buffoon realize some other product has a "better" browser and then we go in a circle all over again.

Meh...

Next in line: it doesn't have a sidechain or a duck to kill, then it is something about oversampling, then a bit of copy protection drama and lastly it goes like the company is evil because transfer policies are not what I want them to be :hihi:
no ducks?
wtaf waldorf? :x
No, indeed... and rumour has it, they don't believe penguins have knees, either.

That said. I do find the browser on this to be a bit rudimentary, yes, and personally I prefer something more in line with a file explorer (and organizer) program layout I am more familiar with, but it is nonetheless, usable. This (below) is more along the lines of my preference, certainly, but not "required", or a deal-breaker. Particularly as I do really like the UI/UX of this synth, otherwise. And it sounds great (IMHO). Between this, Xenia, the NW-1, and my Sledge II, I've definitely got my Waldorf-fix needs covered.

I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

Yep. Nothing new. Reproduction of old tech from 1989. 35 years old gear with warts and all.

Is there an osc phase knob setting somewhere in the plugin or am I blind? Its quite annoying that the oscs are always playing at the same phase and when you detune them you get the nasty phasing sound each time.

Why not import your own waveforms or samples to create your own wavetables like Nave?
