Sonic Freaks Updated his Beautiful Collection to work in the plugin, this is easily the best soundbank for the Microwave available

Question: Nave is supposed to be a sort of emulation of the Wave (except for multi-timbrality and added functions maybe?). The Microwave is said to be a minimalist Wave. So (assuming the aforementioned statements are true): what is the essential difference between the Microwave and Nave plugins (apart from bi-timbrality, new gui, up-to-date programming and Microwave "authenticity")?

Who said that?svart wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 2:14 pm Question: Nave is supposed to be a sort of emulation of the Wave (except for bi-timbrality and added functions maybe?). The Microwave is said to be a minimalist Wave.
That is wrong on so many levels I don't even know how to begin with.
Pretty much everything related to the sound, the GUI, the performance and the possibilities.svart wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 2:14 pm what is the essential difference between the Microwave and Nave plugins

The original hardware had sloppy digital envelopes that were not 100% precise, meaning every keypress was slightly different, it was 1989 they were pushing the bleeding edge of what was possible at a reasonable costMedenka wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 12:11 pmYou mean sloppy because they are digital, or sloppy because they are not good?tellHerSatan wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 10:50 pm Yes, sloppy digital envelopes which are emulated. See around 9:09 in the deep device video for details.
IOW, all digital envelopes are sloppy for you - yes/no?
This gives the envelopes which are not just basic ADSR a beautiful sound that is slightly different on every keypress, making the the instrument very much feel alive
This behavior is recreated perfectly in the plugin, only the envelopes are much much easier to use in the plugin than they were in the hardware thanks to nature of interacting with a GUI on a screen over a tiny LCD screen

Ok, probably just my imagination based on the opening image on the ipad version (showing the Wave in the background as well as some other Waldorf rack synths). Anyway, having the Nave plugin with basically the same wavetables where I can get sounds in the ballpark, as well as a other wavetable plugins and an Argon 8, I will pass on this. It surely does sound fat though.Garrincha wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 3:14 pmWho said that?svart wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 2:14 pm Question: Nave is supposed to be a sort of emulation of the Wave (except for bi-timbrality and added functions maybe?). I didn’t either, which is why I bought the M, even though I really wanted the 3rd Wave. Then they released the desktop, which was a bit of a burn, considering they said they weren’t interested in doing one. When they did, I made the swap, even though I lost money in the process. I figured, I can always make more money, but not more time having the exact thing that I wanted.sl1200mk2 wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 1:10 amUnfortunately or possibly fortunately, I just don't have the physical space for any full-sized synths. I have a Pro-3 and that's it aside from a Minilogue XD and a bunch of desktop modules. If I could do it, the 3rd Wave would be on a short list for sure.zerocrossing wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 12:21 am The M sounds pretty great, and is a lot more synth than this, but less synth than the 3rd Wave. I'm happy I ditched the M for the 3rd Wave, especially now that there's this, but if money was more of a consideration the M is definitely worth it.

I'd love to see them update the browser to allow for tagging sounds, I can see a bunch of new soundbanks being released for this now. Other than that, it's a great release.

Kind of surprised they didn't learn anything from the DSP563 project , as they're browsers are so much better than Waldorf's with this plugin. They need a better browser.
