I have released a new preset pack Opsix Arctic Shimmer for the Korg Opsix synthesizer.

Each preset responds to both the modwheel and aftertouch, while the 15 Synthmorph sequences take you into the unexplored territories of the Korg Opsix with extreme parameter modulations.

Content details:
  • 80 presets for all Korg Opsix hardware or native software versions.
  • All presets use modwheel and aftertouch.
  • Available in .op6program and .op6lib formats for full compatibility.
  • Commented, categorized, and tagged presets for easy navigation.
  • 15 Opsix morphing Synthmorph sequences in MIDI and WAV formats.

Wow, excellent demo! It’s been a while since I’ve used Opsix since I tend to use the Modwave and the Wavestate most of the time.

But you’ve crafted some awesome patches with sounds that I didn’t know Opsix was capable of producing.

And I love learning new things about the synths that I use. I’ll be picking this up tonight. Well done, brilliant work!! :tu:

Thank you for the kind words!

It's not an exaggeration to say that "taming" the Opsix was a real challenge, as it unfortunately has several problems (awkward UX, reliability, etc. - I won't list).

However, the plus that an experienced hardware manufacturer seems to be able to add to an instrument is there - every component (carriers / modulators, filters, envelopes, etc.) has a very pleasing character, parameters are well scaled, modulations don't fall apart, effect quality is excellent.

What only a few people realise is that the Opsix is far more than just an FM synth - you can even use it as a 6 oscillator virtual analogue if you want, an additive synth.. and much more. Listening just the factory presets is a meh experience, but during the exploration phase I realized Opsix makes probably the best, gritty, ultra-digital sounds I was always looking for.

It really takes time and dedication to get to know it in depth, not to mention the minefield of software problems :) I have sent a lot of bugs to Korg Japan, and I can only hope they will ever address them...

An unlike other Synthmorph products, morphing an FM synthesizer with multiple parameters at the same time is nearly an impossible task if you still expect musical results... so a new, different and kind of limited approach was needed, which can still sound great and bit more unique.
