Is there anything in a plugin that can imitate its sound? I’d like to try something like that with Modo bass.

I remember there was this;

But it was emulating a pedal and is more an overdrive. Having never tried the original I have no idea!

There is a new free one, S-Drive from Modern Music Solutions.
64-bit, VST3, Apple Silicon, GUI. Not sure how accurate it actually is, but I like it.

There is also a model of the original SansAmp from Arturia, Dist OPAMP-21.
It's not free, and I've found it is difficult to get a good sound from it. Again, I have no idea about the actual accuracy.

Finally, there are a number of SansAmp captures in TONEX.
Some are usable, but tweakability is limited limited, as is the nature of TONEX's ML design.

I was using TONEX for my SansAmp tracks, but I may switch over to S-Drive, as it seems like I can get the same sound out of it (unlike Dist OPAMP-21) but with more versatility.

I don't think anything goes for that specific model, but these are inspired by various sansamp units:

I tried the Kuassa Bass Driver, but it sounded pretty awful, and nothing like any of the other models or what I would expect a SansAmp to sound like.

I would put Kuassa in the same class as Cherry Audio.

I made Tonex captures of all the Sansamp PSA-1.1 presets and they sound identical to the hardware.

I should point out that Tech-21 has put out a lot of very different SansAmp designs. the original design can still be purchased as SansAmp Classic. That's what Arturia modeled. It was originally designed primarily for guitar, which proved to be very unpopular with everyone except Kurt Cobain. But it showed promise on bass guitar, and the design was developed further into the bass driver that most people associate SansAmp with.

S-Drive is specifically a model of the Bass Driver v2, which is the current version of the Bass Driver DI, and the most ubiquitous SansAmp unit out there. There are a number of Bass Driver v2 demo videos on YouTube, and they point to S-Drive being pretty accurate. Seems like a real Bass Driver v2 is a little more rolled off and thus a bit warmer, which is pretty typical when comparing analog devices to their digital counterparts.

Also, I forgot to mention there is a Bass Driver model in AmpliTube 5 which is pretty decent. It's kind of odd they didn't include it in MODO BASS 2.

I have Amplitube 5. Is it an actual amp or an effect? I was just checking and wasn't sure which one it might be as there are so many choices in there.

It's a Stomp. "Ampless" under Distortion. It's one of the new stomps included in the full version of AmpliTube 5. It seems to be a model of the first version of the Bass Driver that lacks the MID SHIFT and BASS SHIFT found on v2.

The most common usage for a Bass Driver DI would be to split the bass signal, using both the effected output, plus the clean DI output going to a miked bass amp, then mixing the two signals to taste. You can do that in AmpliTube 5.

Cool! I just found that one and will check it out tonight.

Yeah, no more purchases from me until I see some movement here.

Nembrini is the most accurate, imo. Unfortunately, I’ve always despised how the Bass Driver DI sounds in real life. I have no idea why people like it. The tube emulation just adds a very unpleasant high-mid distortion that really ruins anything that’s put through it.
