Is having a tricky alias really that important? I really don't want to go by "Chase", But I can't think of Anything. Does jumbling 2 or 3 letters still work (ATB, BT)? Any tricks to come up with one that wouldn't be embarrasing?

Nah. I have a random song name generator, but I would never have my actual name be made up by a machine.

My favorite technique for coming up with band names -at least pretentious names which work well for IDM/Ambient/Experimental groups- is the following:

Find a book, magazine, manual, or anything with lots of text. Point to a word at random. Take that word and the next 1-3 words. There's your name.

Right now I'm looking at an ad for Cingular Wireless which came in the mail, and I've come up with:

Trademarks of America
Respective Owners
An Invitation
Switching To
Which Is Coming
On The Run
Equipped to Tap
Keys That Glow
Anodized Aluminum
The Most Beautiful
Over To The Months
Simple: You
Charges Can
Across The Country
I Have Mobile
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

nahh I dont think its a biggy really..

I'm VitaminD because I used to (and probably should still be :o) taking Vitamin supplements - I'm lactose intolerant :hihi: thats really where I made my name from..

anyways.. several years ago I started getting hatemail on my email address and various 'so when are you going to be at ________' (fill in the blank with any various club) messages...

..turns out there is a DJ Vitamin D too :bang:

Then I started (for a short period of time) to go under the name "Aural Bliss" ..had the domain and everything.. domain expired, I (stupidly) didnt reorder.. and now there is some NEW rock band there with that name.. I wonder how they picked that name out? :x

so, yeah, I know how hard it is to find an unused alias.. :hihi: :bang:

but really... if I release commercially I'd probably consider just pushing to use my real name... no one else has it so why not?

What I'm trying to do is have a name that fits this criteria: I pick up a record and look at the names on it (all the good, american Drum n' Bass have been collabs lately - example: Dieselboy+Kaos+Karl K), and I try to imagine if whatever alias i think about could fit in along those names, but I havent really come up with one that is fitting, eye-grabbing, yet not cheesey or cheap all at the same time.

Use a thesaurus. Or ramble and record. That's how I came up with Spanking Junior. You can have it now. I'm considering the name Turd, perhaps with omlots.

I dunno if they would mind, but on more than one occasion I have expressed my support for the name "Lady J and the Muff Wigglers"

or to use your name as an alias would be good too:
Car Chase
Chasey Lane :-o
Paper Chase
ChaseTEYEZ

or if you are a strong bad fan, LimoZeen...
