An update about syncing the LFOs. Not possible! But the support had a chat with the developer and it sounded like they were going to add it in a future update.

Ouch, I just bought this and the Adoyo physical modeling plugin... I have exceeded my usual $30 plugin cap with all this great HW modeling going around. sheesh...

I have no experience with the hardware but I love the character of this thing. For whatever reason I wasn’t nearly as impressed when I tried the Microwave XT with the Xenia chip emulator but this sounds great.

Listening to a demo on YT now and I cannot hear a sound I would use. I think a bit of eq would make any VST sound like this. Put a shelf cut of 6dB on any VSTi at 8kHz and it will be the same. It is as dull as dishwater and I do not mean tone.

Don't be fooled by good keyboard players playing. I think after the "shiny new thing" wears off this will be on sale second hand by the bucket load.

if you make modern music it's going to have a hard time fitting in.

Anyone made an actual completed track with this synth ? I would love to hear it.

I want to be proven wrong, then I will pick it up second hand for $40.00 in a years time.

digital synths are an acquired taste. The deepest and thickest bass is not from a minimoog but a DX7..

not for everyone....

to me each preset is just inviting to play and tweak around and time passes by...for me a good parameter if a synth is good or not.

So, if you own usual suspects like Zebra, Hive, Serum, SynthMaster, Dune, Vital - what does this old digital Waldorf synth bring to the table (except maybe nostalgic feelings)?

It's old.

From my brief time of using it I'd say it's the way it plays the wavetable through the virtual DAC and filter that makes it differ from modern subtractive synths. In a similar way that Valhalla Vintage Verb is 'just a reverb' but imparts a distinct sonic character to what it's applied to, the playback engine on this also adds a distinctive 'vintage digital' fingerprint

If you dislike the '80s digital [but imperfect] sound' you'd definitely not get much from this vs your mentioned synths. But if something like the below gives you a squirt of nostalgic serotonin from the soundtrack this'll help get you towards that direction:

The sound is completely different. It's a bit shrill, aliasy, metallic, but full at the same time, and sounds really nice. It got tons of character. In fact it has a very strong personality, that I haven't heard from alot if synths these days. I hate to use the word "musical" because wtf does that even mean but this synth has tons of musicality.

Hi,

Rolf from Waldorf writing.

We are starting a public beta program for upcoming updates. You can register here:

https://waldorfmusic.com/beta-program/

All you need is a licensed version. No demo mode in betas. Please use the official trial version for demo mode which is 30 days without any restriction. Betas are owners only.

I am expecting first beta next week.

There will be a tool for reporting bugs and entering feature requests,

Cheers
Rolf

I have no experience of the original and was wondering the same as McDoom. I hear a downsampled quality, but I also see an explanation on the Waldorf YouTube channel of the limitations of the hardware processor resulting in variations in envelope timing. So that musical quality may be a constant variation in envelopes, an inconsistency similar to that of analog synths.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.
