In general i agree that better learn what you have. In other hand, if i had taken a purely pragmatic approach (not taking into account the potentially different sound of algos of the same type of effects between plugins from different vendors, different combinations of controls that influence the birth of an idea in different ways), then I would most likely completely done with plugs after NI Reaktor lol. Or stock Ablton Suite devices.

One of the reasons I bought Cyberdrive is because it has "that Melda sound" which in a lot of cases I like, personally. I just can't easily use the Melda UX/UI (Product Design) as it impedes my creative flow. The United plugins sound like Melda to me, and that makes sense considering the relationship. For me I get a bunch of Melda effects with some new ideas and things, packaged with a nice product design for a very reasonable price. (And a lot of the Melda bells and whistles (features) like OS options, AGC, etc).

Unfortunately it doesn't expose many of the Melda configuration options. I took a demo and the knobs were too sensitive, which I can adjust on Melda plugs by selecting tablet mode. The randomization is useful. The rest of it does not stand out to me. I'm a pass.

I honestly can't remember when I had so much fun with a distortion plugin before, it's so effortless to get cool and useful tones out of this beast.

Plus it has lots of options.

This sounds great. Love the control and GUI. However, i do find the knobs really finicky when adjusting. Too sensitive.

This thing can get pretty wild. Many of the distortions are a bit too much imo. I'm going in at -18lufs and have to reduce the input level screw to -24 for some algos to hear an actual audio signal and not just a distorted mess. Even with the "normal" algos like tape or diode or whatever everything sounds completely broken even with drive fully to the left. It's like this plugin runs way too hot internally.
Feedback module looks fun tho especially the pitch modes.

UI seems fine overall, but why on earth is it not possible to tweak knobs, switches etc. when a module is off? Please change this, it is a workflow killer and makes no sense whatsoever

This was pretty much my takeaway as well. i can't get this thing to sound good on anything :? . always end up with a congealed mess of harmonics and it has a tendency to diverge into wavefolding territory no matter how careful I am with gain-staging it. I'm not against heavy handed distortion tones. regularly using amp sims by Mixwave and Neural DSP, not to mention 2 of my favourite more recent distortion plugins; Heavyocity Fury, and Audified Multidrive Pedal Pro can get super hairy if you need it, but what I am hearing out of Cyberdrive, just too messy to be useful IMHO

"YMMV"as they say I guess

I noticed with the Analog Fold algo, with the Control knob at the default 50%, its a distorted mess, but if you back off that to 0% it cleans up nicely. For the other Classic algo's i tested, the Control knob does very little, nothing like this one. Not sure if thats intended.

Just discovered there is a tablet mode, right click the silver back drop of the GUI and a big drop down will display with it.

This does sound good imo, dunno if ill buy it,
i have all the melda distortions already. the
design is nice tho. :tu:

I now came around to testing it... typical Melda quality... rather powerful on paper, but the sound coming out of it is... weird... and... filterish... for the most part of it.

Thanks for the heads up. :dog: Not sure why I didn't find that. I will give it another closer look and maybe the documentation too. lol

Ok, so I tried this thing in a techno track last night, and seriously... I ended up just sitting there, looking at it and thinking why the fk does this thing sound so good on my bass busses. :o

Seriously, I think Trash, Vertigo, Rift etc, are gonna be out the door before too long.
It's like this thing was made for techno producers.

just...wow
