KVR Studio Manager is a great tool that will find its place in many professional DAWs.

One feature that would make migrating from one machine to another (or reinstalling an operating system) easier is a column that lists the copy protection scheme (if any). Every time I configure a new computer, I find that I've forgotten to de-authorise at least one or two of the more exotic plug-ins before which used hardware-based local copy protection on the previous machine.

Thanks for consideration! :-)

+1000%. My use case is slightly different - I'm slowly divesting myself of nearly all software that requires online connectivity when instantiated, persistent attempts at telemetry, and/or online authorization DRM schemes. The ability to track and sort by this type of info would be a huge benefit both for migrations as mentioned by @Dietz and for figuring out which developers I want to continue to support in the future.

That would be helpful. And I'm sure it will never be implemented. Because the KVR Studio Manager falls into the exact same category, belongs to the same business model.

Ah well. I guess my 20 year old spreadsheet will have to continue doing the lifting. Also, I get that most people won’t be quite as adamant about things either because they don’t care, they don’t have an expectation of longevity in the products or companies, or they haven’t lost enough money/products to these schemes yet.

I wish companies would be more up front about what copy protection (in general) is being used in each particular product. There are some schemes that I refuse to use anymore, especially anything that requires a periodic phone home to continue working. Running Little Snitch or similar can be quite illuminating. 😬

Addendum: I’d like to clarify that I’m not against connectivity when it’s part of the core functionality. For something like studio manager, I would expect that it’s sending data back to some other server in order to provide me with the feature set that interested me in the first place. I don’t, however, need a string library phoning home every time I launch it.

that is a superb idea
