Pigments.

It certainly has a lot of layers,I’ll give it that.

What are the filters like? I think Dune tends to win in that respect.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Filters sound really nice. Decent overdrive options, nice variety. I haven't explored much beyond the standard BP/LP/HP but they sound clean and musical.

I think the only place where it falls down a bit is in terms of FX. They are usable but not the best- although the filterbank thing is cool. Whether this matters is hard to say, I have way too many external FX as it is so not a huge loss. But compared to say Avenger- which I think SM3 can compete with on most fronts- wins this part of the contest with ease.

I'm also struggling to imagine many times I'll need 16 layers but I guess hosting multi sampled instruments is a possibility.

I’m not sure why, but I’ve never taken to Synthmaster, even though I bought it on the pre-sale. Not sure why, though the UI could be part of it. Never really feels that intuitive to me.

Correct. I did not have any time to work on the FX section. That's my next TODO list after iOS version is release (Yes there is going to be an iOS version, which will hopefuly be the most powerful iOS synth for a long while ever :D )

I haven't tested it enough yet, but from quick test i did, it would seem that it just might be the new best synth for FM?

Post

For me, Omnisphere, Pigments, and Avenger. SM3 looks pretty amazing, but not sure if I need another flagship synth.

No. I’m still on v2. I did submit a bug where the polyphonic aftertouch wasn’t working but when I went back to check on it I accidentally closed the bug. I wonder if it ever got fixed.

We released a new update for SynthMaster 2 back in June, I guess you haven't downloaded that either. Here's my post from June 10. BTW, the OP is talking about SynthMaster 3, not SynthMaster 2 :ud:

As much as I love synthmaster 1, 2 and 3, avenger 2 remains the absolute ruling king to me. Just because it is unreally awesome.

But

Sm3 has some very strong tricks up its sleeve: incredibly good sounding presets, future release of a mobile version....

We should buy both

Synthmaster's presets are from the best I have heard (including diva, serum, hive, falcon, Rob Papen's, dune, phase plant, current ...), I don't know how you managed this sorcery but I guess it is a testimony to the raw power of your synth.

I always found Avenger and the company behind it weird, I never really took to it. No MPE either and they told me that they never will do it.

I sold Falcon since I found it's sound sterile and the sample loading abysmally slow. UVIs focus was mostly on their own libraries and they seemed to miss a lot of low hanging fruit, like really good surround support and native MPE at the core, not as a script. The sequencers and scripting is really good, but 3rd party support is abysmally bad.

I never had Omnisphere but from videos I did not like the UI.

Pigments is somehow nice GUI wise but for some reason it's sound never really made my ears happy.

With earlier SM versions I did not gel either, but since SM3 came out, this changed.
The UI could use a bit of a kick in the "sexy" department but it is extremely usable, well thought out and deep.
I'm not the biggest fan of "everything rightclick menu", but at the same time it is very clear and consistent.
The detail editors for sequencers, arps, samples, slices, wavetables etc. are really good.
And sequencers and arps per layer and Midi input and output also per layer is rad.

And I have no idea what it is, but the sound has something raw, natural and real that does something for my ears hardly any other synth does. :phones:

So I've retired mostly everything else other than my collection of physical modelling synths and SM3.

The presets are fantastic, it supports MPE, can go as deep as you like or very simple and still sound great, the filters are very good, the FM is top tier, CPU is good for what it's capable of...
And it was also great to see how fast bugs got fixed and features added recently.

So yeah, I personally can highly recommend to dig in.
This would be my "lonely island synth" for sure.

Cheers,

Tom
