Seriously, I think Trash, Vertigo, Rift etc, are gonna be out the door before too long.
It's like this thing was made for techno producers.

just...wow
I had a similar experience, I went in with muted expectations but was getting great sounding stuff really easily, even from the more extreme algorithms.

I like how the multiband filters let you choose three independent frequency ranges, but I wish there was an option to link them, so that it worked like a band split like in Trash or Saturn (so that you don't accidentally have two distortions with overlapping frequencies).

I think what surprised me the most is that even though it's a multieffect unit, the other effects all feel like they're in service to the distortion and there to shape it in more interesting ways. Instead of thinking "I don't need reverb", it's really easy to use that reverb to make the distortion sound more unique.

Yep, that's what surprised me too. the 2 tone shaping sections did exactly what I expected them to do, and accentuated the bass just how I wanted, which is NOT something I can say for other distortion plugins. For me, even FF Saturn doesn't get that quite right (though I do still use Saturn)

Haven't used the chorus yet, but the amp/cab and the rev/resonator add an industrial flavour that is just so well suited to techno.

The only downside is that it's a bit cpu heavy? (10%ish on my i7).
If it had an ECO mode, I think it would become my goto for everything techno, but as it is, it will be staying on my bass bus.

I'm not saying that this thing is super pro coded or anything, but it does feel like a plugin I would have made for myself, so I'm pretty happy.

Would defo advise anyone who makes dark techno / darkpsy etc, to have a look at this

I kinda felt the same about the filtery/phasey audio quality on certain distortion types. Thought it was just me. Overall though, still a very fun and usefull tone shaping plugin. Agreed, excellent for that modern techno sound.

I've no idea what's a 'weird' or 'filterish/filtery' sound, somebody care to enlighten me?

Thanx in advance!

Like an unpleasant, out of phase artifact sound. Rather subtle though and not on all distortions. If I recall, perhaps I heard it on the 'freak' distortion modes. Certainly not enough to warrant not purchasing it though. It's a great plugin.

Got it, I will try the 'Freak' modes then and see if there's something that bothers me sound-wise.

Sounds good. Very good for the more extreme stuff. Lots of options to shape the sound. Bought.

Is this actually a Melda MXXX wrapped distortion?

Post

United plugins (brands), WA Prod, seem to be using the melda framework, which is essentially a modular system. I expect these plugins are a blend of Melda DSP, with some custom design and programming in places.

Had to poke around in a few places to find out the intro sale ends Oct 1. Best Service still has best price.

plugin boutique gives you pyros as a freebie right now tho, so you can get two cool distortion plugins for 15 bucks.

I don't think so.

The actual Dev is JMG sound (retronaut, hyperspace, mirror, transmutator etc.)

They use the melda framework for making plugins but I doubt it's just a wrapped version of Melda's own distortion.

Where one can find the melda framework? I searched but found nothing

The dev obviously has his own toolbox (IDE) so he could easily turn every MXXX preset into a standalone plugin.

There's absolutely no reason to assume that Jason Gibbins (or any of the other United Plugins "developers") can even just write Hello World in any language.
