I am trying to understand your question. What do you mean by "directly" automatable? All modules can be modulated. All modules and their parameters can be automated in your DAW. You tweak the parameter and Reaper picks it just fine. Is that what you mean?Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sat Jun 01, 2024 7:17 pm Are the parameters directly automatable in vcv rack pro? Or is there some module or something that's needed?
VCV Rack 2 is out! Free and Pro versions ($99 at launch)

Yes directly automatable meaning it doesn't first need to be mapped or "enabled" somehow. For example miRack, an iOS VCV Rack app, has 32 parameters that can be enabled for automation, you have to assign them. Similarly, Omnisphere does not have directly automatable parameters, you need to right-click and enable it. Similar like Maswive X which only has the 16 macros, you can't automate parameters themselves. It's common for modular apps or ones with very many parameters to require some kind of initial mapping to a macro or automatable state first.kmonkey wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 7:36 pmI am trying to understand your question. Reaktor blocks is an exception , since each block is in fact an instrument which has it's parameters already assigned ( parameter id's in reaktor talk )Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 8:44 pm It's common for modular apps or ones with very many parameters to require some kind of initial mapping to a macro or automatable state first.
Load in a block and it's ready to automate

Of course VCV rack is a virtual emulation of a hardware Eurorack system. VCV and other software like it for example Voltage Modular are intended to be way more of a self contained ecosystem than Reactorgentleclockdivider wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 11:14 pm Reaktor blocks is an exception , since each block is in fact an instrument which has it's parameters already assigned ( parameter id's in reaktor talk )

You have a ton of internal tools that can automate and modulate pretty much anything, you are not nearly as reliant on a DAW
As an owner of Reactor and VCV Rack they are different tools for different things, and of course of you want to assign things to DAW automation you most certainly can

f**k that sub BS.
Everyone wants that monthly income but at $30 per month, it’ll quickly become more expensive than buying outright. Poor choice in pricing.
If they wanted to do this right, then they should have offered a voucher to buy what a user wants, or offer a rent-to-own for VCV pro.
Hopefully they don’t start making some modules sub exclusives.
I have VCV pro and there’s no way their pricing model makes sense, even for someone just starting out.

The Dev just replied to the concerns of the users:
Hello all,
I’m a bit confused why users (here and social media) are angry about this. We’re not removing any services or products, just adding another option to get access to our products and third-party products. Nothing else has changed:
VCV Rack Free is still open-source and free of charge. Some users are suggesting that it isn’t. I don’t understand this misunderstanding—the source code of the latest version can easily be found at GitHub - VCVRack/Rack: The virtual Eurorack studio
All open-source modules from pre-VCV+ are still open-source. Again, some users are suggesting that their licenses have changed. I’m not aware of any—you can check their source/licenses.
All premium modules sold at https://library.vcvrack.com/ are still available there. No module/bundle prices or availability have changed.
VCV Rack Pro is still available $149 at VCV Rack 2 - Virtual Eurorack Studio
Any non-subscription software that customers have purchased will continue working on your computer for life. Nothing will change if you aren’t interested in VCV+.
I thought that VCV+ would be welcomed by people with the following use cases:
You want to try several modules and/or VCV Rack Pro without a large initial investment. No need to spend time reading about modules to choose a personalized selection based on your budget constraints—you can simply try and use them immediately in VCV Rack.
You want to load patches from your friends or online, regardless of the premium modules they use in the patch.
You want to temporarily enjoy the hobby of virtual modular synthesis for a few months but plan to move on.
You want to try new modules as soon as they release without buying them each time. We hoped that VCV+ revenue would allow us or third parties to release a new module or bundle of modules worth about $30 every month.
We have received hundreds of requests in the last 3 years asking for use cases like these, and we believed that VCV+ was the clear solution to satisfy these customers. I subscribe to several audio plugin companies myself and enjoy using their risk-free services that always guarantee access to their newest products and versions.
Most revenue from VCV+ goes to third-party module developers, to give them a steady and predictable revenue stream to invest in new module designs, DSP, and testing.
I see no harm in offering an alternative way for customers to access the products on our store. However, if users don’t like VCV+, I can discontinue it.
Since launching VCV, we have listened to users and have directed this large ship to please as many users as possible. So if the existence of this new service displeases a large proportion of users, I will remove this option.

I don't complain. I simply don't spend money on anything subscription-based, end of story.

The way they describe it is allowing for a paid demo.
I still think their price model is way off especially if you already purchased VCV Pro.

While I can see his points, and doubtless there are those who will perceive it as advantageous for themselves and others, it does smack of this:
I paid like $30 (?) for the "Mutable Instruments" releases option when VCV first came out, but quickly lost interest in the program, and much prefer to use Reaktor, and/or Voltage Modular. The latter will 'host' Reaktor as a Vst.
No ill will meant, but $30 a month, seems excessive (IMHO), though as a one shot to try any/all of what's offered it might be justifiable for many, particularly if there are some cool presets/configurations that are desirable for a specific application.
A "rent to own" option, makes way more sense to me. But then:
I just won't subscribe to software, personally.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

I would prefer a pay-and-own model based on the amount of modules you can connect (and that can be upgraded). A low entry price that gets you hooked and then you find yourself wanting to connect more so you end up getting the premium pro version to toast your CPU.

$29 a month is completly ridiculous.
absolutely unrealistic.
the guy forgets that everybody WANT^S to get to our money based on charging us per month.
$29/Month is so totally off, that it makes me doubt the guys who came up with that, it their entirety. Nobody halfway sane would ask for that much for such thing like VCV Rack. In reverse, why give the base model out for free, if it was about to get some revenue back in ? keep it fair, we pay. Nobody -still sane- is asking for everything to be free. i payed immediately when i started to use VCV RAck. I was fine with that. (that was when VCV RAck2 came out)
True, he says the existing models remain as is.
but i do not trust people who do that.
there has been a thinking process behind that. There has been plans and reasons.
as is, makes nothing sense.
and definitly not for THAT price tag !
just my opinion ofcourse
