mAAG eq4? Is it worth the money

EQ4 has been updated. Subtle improvements. Apparently they didn’t touch the DSP but I’m finding I like it more than I did when I first got it. I do think the fixed frequency choices are pretty good one ones and it’s fast.

the biggest update is that the gui is now scalable. Much easier to work with

Also, I'm testing it...
The volume is reduced by default, which makes it sort of gain compensated if you work around the range of 0 - +3dB per band. Past that it starts to increase overall volume a little. It's not as insane as some people have said. Also, the trim control is now a knob instead of just a weird little screw, so it's much easier to grab it and make an adjustment if you're doing a lot of boosting with it.
Also, the air band seems to be a shelf and doesn't cramp at Nyquist; it looks pretty smooth. So, it seems like some of the complaints either aren't valid or have been addressed in this new update.

I'm also appreciating that the skeumorphic stuff, lighting especially, is less annoying than it was in the last version. And the yellow tone of the air gain knob is much nicer.

It’s a gimmick EQ. It sounds “smooth” because it boosts and cuts every other frequency (if only a little bit) to make drastic boosts and cuts less drastic by comparison. It’s not terrible. It’s just nowhere near magical.

Haha, well if sounding smooth is a gimmick I guess I like gimmick EQs.
I think it’s worth 20-30 bucks on sale. I don’t think it’s worth full price.

I like it. I use it for unique tonebending and frequency tweeking.

I got Mäag Audio EQ2 for free quite a while back when they were giving it away.
It also has the Air Band® if that's what you want it for. It's $10 right now.

That's another great eq (eq 2), tho eq 4 is probably better. tbh, I don't use 95% of my PA stuff anymore or buy anything from them. The 2 little maag eq's are about all I use. Not interested in the whole NI, PA thing these days...
