QMMG: When the day is over I’m curious to know which store actually waited for Make Noise to give the okay to sell.

Every shop I contacted, including one big one here in the US sold out before Monday.

Perfect Circuit sold out without an online posting too (and before they officially open doors).

This sucks, but as mentioned I can live with my current sound, or I might add another Steady State Gate or just keep the one alongside DXG. Natural Gate is another option that’s appealing… just not the wait time.

On the QMMG mess, I've seen people saying they should have charged more, should have run a lottery, shouldn't have dictated when retailers were allowed to sell it, should have done it only through direct sales, etc. but I'm pretty well convinced that whenever the hype is as huge and the supply is limited, there is literally nothing that can be done to convince people the distribution was fair.

I definitely agree its a no-win situation for a limited release.

The part that sucks for me is thinking its going to work as they suggest… a release on 9/9, but then find out they were all sold off before then.

It’s not the end all for me. QMMG was something I didn’t want to know how it sounded because of the 2nd hand price, so I only entertained the idea when they announced the re-release.

There are others who’ve been lusting over this for years. I’d hate to be them and miss out.

As someone who's benefitted from this in the past, as well as lost out by not having those relationships, I'm not surprised.

That's a bummer but I'm not surprised. That's how things go with limited runs like this.

While people focus on the Both/LPG mode of the QMMG, that is honestly the least exciting thing it does. If you are mainly looking for a Low Pass Gate, I don't think the QMMG is the best option. I prefer my DJTW Dual LPG or the LPGs on my Easel. The QMMG's strength is in the resonant LP and HP modes. With one channel in HP mode and another in LP mode, the two channels operate like a single channel of a Buchla 291 or Korg MS20 (but the QMMG gets much dirtier than the 291), with the normalization allowing you to control both channels with a single CV input. The MMG gets much closer to that territory than anything else I've used.

I know you are keen on the black panels, I don't know if anyone ever made an MMG panel in black, but it might be worthwhile to keep an eye out. MMGs turn up for much more reasonable prices.

I think there’s an MMG up for sale, at around $499. Audio Parasites has made black panels before, but I’d have to have to check.

I think I’m okay not chasing it down though. I just have to ignore the latest Cinematic Laboratory video. :hihi:

I was really excited about how my rack works just a short while ago, so if that made me happy I can still be happy with what I have. 8)

Can’t even be mad at people because that’s what friends are for! Well except for a few that will likely post direct to Reverb at $3k and except at that Craigslist post, selling for $400 worldwide. Apparently they have an extra one that they’re going to sell at a loss. Sure, that seems legit.

Go for the rabid elephant gate if you can get that, forget the makenoise fan service stuff...

It's funny, people used to have similar complaints about Rabid Elephant since they had serious supply issues for such a long time, and people were unhappy with them no matter which way they tried to sell their limited stock.

Yeah, there was also a time when Make Noise was not nearly as popular and didn't sell very quickly. The first few batches of QMMGs could only be purchased through Analog Haven and they didn't sell out immediately. Lots of people complained about the front panel graphics and I seem to remember there was more demand for the Plan B Model 13 (which was difficult to come by).

I bought one of the first 50 Maths, which was a highly anticipated module at the time. I remember meeting up with Shawn from AH after work on the day he listed them on his site and I think he had 4 or 5 left. Things are different now. Imagine if Make Noise tried to launch a product with just 50 units now... well, I guess we don't have to imagine.

I’ll likely go this route at some point. For LPG, there’s still a sound I’m after so might need to consider Justin3am’s suggestion too https://synthcube.com/cart/dj-thomas-wh ... um-version

Wish I had been doing more DIY to take on the kit for a very attractive price. :)

I am going to miss out on some resonant goodness, but I’ll consider MMG for a future purchase maybe too.

Seriously, tons of options out there.

I just use the LxD, it has been enough LPG for me so far. Tho I would like to have the
natural gate at some point. The MMG seems like it's too much hassle. Personally, I
don't care about having one at all tbh...

Keep in mind the DJTW LPG is >4" deep. It won't fit in most cases, unless they have a way of mounting the PCBs horizontally now. I have mine mounted in a rack that doesn't have a back. I met Thomas White back in 2010 and he said the PCBs were originally designed for 5U panels.

You can try adding resonance to a non-resonant LPG/filter by using a polarizing mixer to send negative feedback to it's input. That doesn't always work, depends on the circuit but worth trying.

Twin PRS "Wind through the Trees" run in parallel into 2 guitar amps.
Subtle modulation fluidity bliss!
