But then again: who wants to listen to stuff like that? Guitar makers really shouldn't encourage silly stunts like that with their instruments...
My Indonesian Jackson Dinky is on my bench right now from too much of that stuff with a non-licensed Floyd Rose whammy I can't get the springs to settle to save my life. They are still all there but they refuse to fight against the strings to achieve zero point.

The licensed FR on my Charvel Pro Mod Model is another story. As the Timex slogan goes. It takes a lickin and keeps on ticking. I'm just not into that overt slam bang tonality anymore (SD super distortion pups don't clean up well)

Yes, I've nearly purchased several over the years. I also almost purchase the 3k american signature model with the excessively heavy b-bender until good sense caught up and ripped out the crowbar that I was trying to wedge into my wallet with an excessive amount of "justification lube."
Very funny. That’s a great descriptor ..” justification lube “ :hihi:

I only have an SX brand cheapie tele in black.
It’s been ok playability and sound wise . But I currently have it up on gumtree and marketplace for a trade for an iPad,

It’s the jumbo frets .
I keep forgetting I can’t stand jumbo frets,

How / why do I do this I have no idea.

Every time i say to myself “ I’ll really learn to play with a lighter touch THIS time cos the guitar is cool ” and I cannot,

I hate the feel and they defs have a different “clipping” sound to the fretted notes imo, anyone else find this??

When I started my tele quest years back I got a SX Furrian. The screw threads for the bridge did not fit properly and were shredded as I attempted to set up the action. It had constant noise as it was unshielded. The hum didn't help either. Shortly thereafter the fretboard became unsealed from the neck. I should have just waited longer. Both my MIM Blacktop and my CIC modern player are damn fine for inexpensive used telecasters.

I still have my Yamaha Variax standard. I haven't even tried to use the variax sounds in forever. They sound terrible and they are permanently blended with the magnetic pups when the battery is working. It's tone piss poor 70's squire in my opinion as are all yammy strats. But it's a fine neck. Sometimes I think about yanking the neck off and installing it on a better guitar.

I remember those types of guitars with the palm shredder bridges.

The new ones and pretty great fit and finish and better pickups. Still a new squier Tele with the belly cut and medium frets is imo better.

All the SX range have these standard massive jumbo frets ..some can be an intonation nightmare.

My SX LP special copy w P90s has that problem to an extent .. the intonation and tuning is a bit whack, but the neck is very playable and can play really fast on it . And the sound is very useable. :tu:
A good setup and a mm or two off the frets I’d be a keeper for me. But the tech says it cost too much to take down frets that amount I want and advised just buy another axe (?)

A Tele with a Strat neck pickup is killer. Nearly the perfect guitar. I'd like to try the "secret agent" trick of hiding a neck pickup under an Esquire pickguard but it would be a shame to do all that and have it end up sounding worse.

Post

Yeah those lipstick tube neck pickups are horrendous. But as soon as you change the match up you also need a separate volume knob. Sometimes I ponder if it wouldn't be wiser to have a master volume knob and a short throw balance/blend knob.

I'm glad I have a Lace Sensor in the neck for my hss tele.

It's a 19 position guitar and it's not that hard to figure out whats what. I never forget where I parked.

My new thing has been to separate the middle pickup from the switch and put it on its own knob, Jazz Bass-style. That leaves the switch to be able to do all kinds of interesting things with just the neck and bridge.

I've liked this master/balance setup on active bass guitars. I can see that it is easier to make it work predictably with active electronics.

The Peter Frampton Signature (now only available new as an epiphone) Did just that. Tied the Neck and bridge to a single volume/tone. What would have been the bridge pup volume and tone was a blend knob and tone for the middle.

Prior HHH black beauties were wired for Neck, Bridge and Bridge+Middle You could neither get all three nor bridge and neck combos

One of the reasons I love my Steinberger GMT4 after all these years. The tremolo system has to very cool features. One, it locks, creating what’s basically fixed bridge. Two, it maintains relative tuning as you use it, giving you a sound that does not become dissonant over the span of travel. Also, it can lock in several positions, almost like a capo.

Also, the way the Steinberger trems pivot under the saddles makes them super responsive.
