Plug-ins GUI Too Small On Windows Hi Resolution Screens? A Solution!

I guess you have all come across the issue of legacy plug-ins becoming unusable on high resolution screens on Windows lately, with more and more hosts application supporting High DPI scaling and not all plug-ins yet. It may take time to get there (multi monitor scaling for plug-ins on Windows is definitely a tricky topic), and will not ever change for legacy plug-ins anyway.

So I thought you might be interested in knowing that in our latest release (that now supports multimonitor Hi DPI scaling), we have added an option to our PatchWork host to let you bridge older plug-ins that do not support Hi DPI scaling on Windows.

It's all explained in this quick tutorial.

Nice!! :) Would this work with bridged 32 bit plugins as well?

I have no idea - 32/64-bit bridging is not part of PatchWork, so I have not tried it yet. It definitely depends on how the bridged window is created.

If your DAW does 32bit plugins it does, I do wish Microsoft would allow in Windows per-application scaling. I tested DiscoDSP's old 32bit Thrillme in FL studio at 150% scaling not useful for me until I get a 4k monitor, I'm still at 3440x1440 at 100% scaling.

I tried this with Padshop Pro from Steinberg and there is no Auto-Scale Plugin Window option to select from the drop-down popup.

I think that's because Padshop Pro (like Retrologue) is already a VST3 instrument with HiDPI support (you can switch the mode on/off in the settings under the cog) but just isn't really very 'good' support as it doesn't have any scaling options.

At least that's what I see here.

Yes, that was my thought as well, but unfortunately, I can't even switch off HiDPI mode in Padshop Pro since the option is greyed out.

What about the 32 bit plugin running in a bridge (32 bit to 64 bit), and the bridge running in patchwork? There are only a handful of plugins I would want to do this with—for example, SQ8L, PG-8X, etc.

The Auto Scale option does not appear when the host you are running in does not run in HiDPI mode (if the current process is not HiDPI aware then all windows are already automatically scaled by Windows)
