Live handles updates better. Within the DAW. Bitwig you have to install it from a download file. Then it clutters your installed progams list with different installed versions and/or deletes the DAW exe file completly! That happend to me recently. No biggie since i don't use Bitwig that much anyway.

The Bitwig audio engine has a problem with ASIO drivers in that it will not quit after closing the app. Bitwig thinks it's the interface drivers, but it only effects the ASIO. (I've tried four different ones with the same result). I asked for a list of what interfaces they've tested and they gave me this:

has been tested with the product lineup of Focusrite, Motu, UAD, Antelope Audio, Presonus, RME, Arturia, ESI, Audient, M-Audio and a few others

I asked what the "few others" are and specifically about Steinberg-Yamaha (bear in mind that I'm using a Roland which is also not on the list and a PCI MOTU still unconfirmed) and they inform me:

... there is no reason Steinberg/Yamaha interfaces are not on the list besides them have not provided us test samples so far. But we also don't have any reports from users for those interfaces

Also remember that I told them about Tascam having the problem that I quoted to them from this thread and they insisted no users of those have reported issues either.

I get the feeling they don't want to fix this and just make it the customers' problem.

I don't have any problem with Bitwig now**, but I'm mostly using it with Linux (not with other OSes as I prefer now AB Live). Bitwig fits great there in Linux as a minimalist's setup!
My OSes/Drivers that I use are:
1. Windows 11 / Tascam US 4x4 HR (US-HR Series ASIO) / IXO22 (Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO). I had to install the drivers from their websites.
2. Mac Sonoma / Same as above, but I don't remember if I installed any drivers here!
3. Linux Mint 22 / Same as above. I also didn't install any drivers.

You can try Linux with Bitwig and see how that goes with you! I suggest Ubuntu (or Ubuntu Studio) or Mint. You can install it beside Windows and dual boot, but first try the live usb stick and see if your hardware components work with it.

** Oops! It happens again just now! The ASIO driver of Tascam got stuck with Bitwig. I had to run Reaper and close it to be able to free it in Windows!! Live 12 is working fine though!

That is how I would expect ALL interfaces to work. Focusrite seems to be at the top of their tested list and maybe even their top preference. I find it telling that Steinberg, Yamaha, Tascam, Roland are not and that they won't even think about them until those owners start reporting the problem in double digits...
It's apparent to me that Bitwig 5 has a problem they want to blame the other companies for.

I must say I'm quite impressed by the 5.2 upgrade (I had 2 codes, what the heck, coming from 4.x).
Very crisp UI and the background color is less on your face. The Midi clips are finally showing a better contrast with the notes content etc.

The Browser is actually better than the old one for my taste, and the additional modulators (I don't use modulations outside of the Plugins except if I can take advantage of u-he synths CLAP feature) are up there.

Me too (for the first time in many years) and I can't pinpoint exactly why...

The only thing that is a little off for me is that vertical highlight of a selected note(s) and the fact that you need to be a little careful not to drag that highlight instead of the intended note.

It doesn't happen (accidental dragging of that highlight) in Pencil mode, but it happens in the Pointer Tool unfortunately. That Double Arrow that appears upon going on the edges of the Highlight should not be engaged if the cursor is on the edge of a note because, clearly, I want to work on the note.

The overall experience of this version it's an "A"; almost an "A+"

Already stated in this thread. They seem to believe it's the ASIO drivers for Windows with interfaces they never have and don't want to test rather than fix their handling of them. And again, version 4 worked great in that regard.

Now contemplating which DAW to move to. Cubase is working solid for now, but has never been my favorite.
