I want to add some randomness on some vsti parameters, while playing them in cubase.
Not all vst synths have this feature includet, even expensive one don´t.
So is there a way or a midi plugin, that can be used, to be connected with a knob of a vsti and randomising its values as I am playing, MAY BE even beeing able to set the amount of randomness?

Thanks for your help:)

A good set of tools would be Piz midi VST plugins
https://code.google.com/archive/p/pizmidi/downloads

There is
- midiCCmodulator
- midiSwing
- midi Strum
as examples having randomness settings too.

Have as adjacent track sending to same instrument or same track you play.

On the same track you use chained VST to the next using midi out from one to the next.

They do not work as midi plugins of Cubase own kind but you can use midi send stuff to other tracks with these plugins still sending to same VST instrument you want.

Whole bunch of useful midi plugins in his set.

With synths having modulation matrix you use a free running lfo for these purposes too,
- not trigged by a midi note, free running

Have fun....

Add: Sometimes the LFO has a random 'curve' (comes quite often with an icon that looks like a weird step sequence).

Event better is S&H (sample & hold): it catches the LFO-value whenever an event happens - here it would be the midi note on event.

^The "step sequencer" image is for sample and hold modulation. I guess it's meant to represent arbitrary random values.

To the OP, pretty sure a sequencer like Stepic allows for generating random values for something like 4 midi CCs. Could be worth demoing. I found the midi learn aspect slightly fiddly though and now use Bitwig.

Which version of Cubase are you on? Pro still has the Logical Editor AFAIK (I downgraded to Artist a few years back, so can't be 100% sure). Logical editor can do random stuff on anything midi. It's been around for ages, I used to use it for adding in a bit of randomness in hats etc way back in the day when Cubase was only a sequencer before DAWs - could alter timing, velocity, randomize the tone and envelope if they were tied to MIDI CCs. Last time I used it the GUI had become a bit more obscure IMO, but amongst other uses, randomness is exactly what it's good for (or used to be). Not entirely sure it can be used whilst playing, but likely.

Things like velocity, pitch and note position have random settings available in the Midi Modifiers section (in the Inspector).
